On the wiring diagram the switch is shown (and labeled even)

Kickstand UP shorts the wires together

Down, opens the wires. Or disconnects them from each other for you non-tech types Smile

So to bypass or test the switch problem, just connect the 2 wires together somehow. Like with a jumper.

The connections could be dirty or corroded. I have read that on some bikes, going over bumps could cause the kickstand to jostle and break the connection. Make sure your kickstand is returning to the full up position and that the spring is tensioned ok.

I assume the bike is under warranty with that low mileage. Take it to your dealer and have them repair or replace the switch.

Called dealer they told me that if it continues to happen to take it in. I'll do a visual inspection this week. I will probably permanently connect the two wires together.
Thanks for the input everybody.

Keep in mind that COULD effect your warranty because it changes the operation of the motorcycle.

The next time it happens take it to the dealer and if they give you the run around again tell them it's a safety issue and tell them it happened while you were in the far left lane of an interstate and you were almost run down and don't know how you survived and you also told your S/O and your attorney to sue the sh*t out of the dealer if you get injured or killed.

Don't do that! Get it fixed. I'm with Redbirds on this.

Me, too, aschem. If that's not the problem, you may void your warranty and the dealer then won't help you track it down and fix it.

Best wishes.

OK, very good points; I won't modify it, and I'll revert to my old NCO Infantry ways of dealing with the shop.

Hey guys, just had my bike quit after breakfast at the local diner. Managed to get it home. Checked the entire bike over and couldn't find any problems.

I hopped on the google machine and this thread came up. I went out to the bike, cycled the side stand a few times and she fired up and went into gear no problem.

Thanks for the tech help!
