I am amazed at how quiet my CB is compared to my other bike, a BMWF800ST! The ST is a water cooled 800 twin, which has many fewer parts zinging around than the CB. Yet, it sounds like two skeletons wrestling on a tin roof.....perfectly normal for the little Rotax! The small noises that can be heard on a CB1100 are only noticeable because the thing is as mechanically quiet as a turbine. I marvel at how Honda engineered all those reciprocating parts into virtual silence inside a mass of ringing cooling fins. While I understand the annoyance of a new sound, I think a "real" problem will be readily evident. No, no... my noise when cold was quite bad. my other bike was a kawasaki zephyr named "trocotro", so I am used to hear terrible clanks and clonks, most of all when cold. Three exhaust valves were too open (and the standar 0,28mm is already quite open) and were keeping a bad noise when cold which disappeared after the adjustment... the engine bottom noises and air cooled normal noises doesn´t bother me that much. RE: Cam chain rattles when cold - the Ferret - 05-23-2016 Yea, if it was REALLY bad, I might worry some lol RE: Cam chain rattles when cold - Noleshot_imp - 05-23-2016 (05-23-2016, 11:23 PM)Speed_imp Wrote:(05-23-2016, 09:50 PM)Noleshot_imp Wrote: I wouldn't worry too much about the minor noises I am reading about on this forum. I understand. On the bright side, better the clearance to large and noisy than too small and burnt valves! Is this my CAM chain rattling? Video . . . . - treytexag_imp - 05-31-2016 I have a rattle when my CB1100 idle's. I don't remember it being there until recently. Bike has about 800 miles on it, changed the oil when I brought it home, and changed it again with Honda Full Synthetic 10W-30 at ~625 miles. Used Honda oil filter both times. See if you can hear this rattle. When I speed up the engine slightly, the "rattle" goes away, then upon idling again, rattle returns. Is this my CAM chain rattling or is it something else? Any reason for concern? My warranty period has expired.
