I wave at all riders. I figure that I'm sending goodwill their way. The wave is more about the giving of it, not so much about the receiving of it.

I wave at all bikers. Around here everyone waves, It's a farm community. We wave from bikes, from trucks, from tractors. It's just that way here.

As far as who waves to who, I've noticed some of the same things going on, but have also noticed a higher percentage of Harley riders waving to me now....is this because I'm on a UJM now? Or has everyone started to accept each other in this day and age?
I normally do not wave first any more, as I feel odd when I wave and they don't wave back....
Any thoughts?

I don't like to wave at all! but will wave if someone wave at me. It is difficult to raise the hand off the handle bar when I am in high speed or in a curve, it can be dangerous. I now lift my palm of the handle bar to greet someone instead of take it off. I am thinking of painting my glove on palm side white, so when I lift up my palm, they see that I return the greeting, or I just nod.

yesterday, there are hundred of HD on the other side of the HWY, they see me and all raise their arms enthusiastically at me, I greet them by raising my whole arm up for 10 sec or so at 70 MPH, it is quite windy -Smile))

there are certain code of conduct in motorcycling, riders tend to acknowledge and greet each others. yesterday, an BMW passed by on same direction, the passenger, a little girl turns and give a smile, my heart melts.

I went on a 20 mile ride today along a very popular stretch of the Mississippi River and I counted 24 motorcycles along the way. Here is the data I got for waves! I only waved if they waved first.
11 HD's. 6 waves (one was a big thumbs up)
7 UJM's/sport 5 waves
2 adventure's 2 waves
4 crotch rockets 0 waves

Crotch rocket riders cant wave, if they take the weight off their left hand they will fall off on that side. Thats all I can figure.

I just raise my hand in a peace symbol, actually I do this when encountering someone on the jogging trail................I'm also an old goat, from the hippie era.

I get a lot more low waves on my RKC than the CB. IMO it's a lot easier to give a low wave on a heavy cruiser or touring bike while sitting back without causing much imbalance than on a sit straight up or lean forward lighter street bikes.

I wave when I can or nod no matter which bike I come across on the road..

"the wave" interesting act. Here in Ga the locals or any Southerner will wave either riding, driving, walking, jogging, standing you name it.
So on the way home from the dealer my wife noticed the "biker" wave. She tells me you gotta learn the wave. Well it's been 30 years since I have ridden and frankly I am having more fun with the other hand for now! So I'll give the simple raised finger for now, the index one for sure!
As for the demographics of what brands who can tell anymore with all the look a likes out there?

On the thread about naming the CB, I have a 1964 Dodge Town Wagon we call it the "townie" but then so does everyone else who owns one.
