This. Fronts don't have nearly the rubber new the rears do. Can't compare the two. I doubt seriously the OP has worn out their front in only 2k miles.

After almost 200,000 miles (17 years) on motorcycles I would like to think that I have learned how to read wear on tires.I asked for help with new tires, not members opinion on anything else.Treat me the same way that you want to be treated and I'll do the same.

Jeezalou mikedude, not trying to offend you.

If you just had asked where was the cheapest place to buy tires, the answers would have been entirely different, but you made the statement yours was nearly gone at 2000 miles which IMO invited commentary since it is an aberration and not in common with the experience of other members of the board. We cannot see your tire, and we also had no idea you had 17 years and 200,000 miles experience. You had 18 posts when you posted this and list no other bikes in your sig line. Most of us have not gotten the chance to know you. For all we knew this was your first bike and you've been riding for a short time.

I buy most of my tires at Sport Tour In Cincinnati, Ohio. They mail order.

I guess I'm the noob. LOL. I paid about $50 more from my dealer than the best prices I found for RP3s on the web. Of course, the trade off was that I had them on my bike within 3 days of placing the order.

I don't believe anyone is jumping on you, just making clear the idiosyncrasies with these tires. In my experience I have always worn out the rear first, but not with this bike (with the factory tires anyway). I got 9000 on the front and 15000 on the rear, but I probably could have gotten another 1000 out of the rear, but I don't like to push it.
Same here. Go through a couple of rears for every front. And, that is even with track days where heavy braking really takes it's toll on a front tire.

Front wear before rear wear might be expected on a sport bike, with their heavy front end bias, yet we don't see that. If that is the case on a sport bike, then you would expect it to be even more so on a CB1100. Must be some odd explanation, such as some folks tendency to see greater wear on the left side of a tire, in the US. Known to be due to lots of straight line miles where road surface rolls off (not flat) toward the right hand shoulder.

RE: New Tire Prices - Motogeezer1949_imp - 09-20-2014

2171 miles on the CBDLX sitting in my garage. Tires still look fine. I like Bridgestones, been using them for years.

RE: New Tire Prices - flynrider - 09-20-2014

I'm a big fan of Bridgestone's BT-45 bias tires. My CB750 is on it's 3rd set and I think it offers a great combination of stickiness and wear. I average 12K front and 10K rear.

That said, the BT54's that came on my CB1100 did not impress (at least the front didn't). The front started showing wear bars at around 5,400 and was replaced with a PR3 at 6,000. The rear BT54 still looks fine at 7K.

Initially, I expected similar wear from the BT54 radials that I got on the BT45s, but that wasn't the case for the front tire. It seems to have a fairly soft compound and I think it suffered a bit from the excessive heat out here in the desert as other forum members seemed to get a lot more miles out of it than I did.

At this point I'll see how the PR3 works out on the front, but I'm seriously considering just buying a set of BT45s for the CB11 next time around.

RE: New Tire Prices - Randy B - 09-20-2014

I think it has MUCH more to do with the skimpy tread depth that they start out with. If they doubled it I think we would be seeing much closer to standard replacement rates and I think I could get closer to 20,000 on the front if they did that. Hell if they only added 2/32" I would be about the same mileage front and rear and that would suit me just fine.

RE: New Tire Prices - CIP57_imp - 09-20-2014

My stock front was shot at 3000 and at 2000 was cupped pretty bad. I usually get about 5000 out of tires or 1 season. Cheapest insurance policy to get new rubber on as often as possible. Having said that my PR3's have 3800 miles and show no sigh of wear or cupping so we shall see how much i can get our of them .

my bike has 9500 miles now, the org front tire Dunlop 205 still have 2K miles left. Last week, went to my dealer looking around saw a Cb1100 on consignment with 6.5K with original front Bridgestone (BT45?) tire near the end of its life.

I like the Dunlop very much, plenty of grip, feedback, directional stability and quiet. I will use the successor of D205 Sportmax in future.

my prediction: front tire: 11K miles, rear tire 17K (it has more than half rubber left) I just ride normally but don't brake or accelarate like crazy, probably it explains.

I don't mind trying Bridgestone but don't want to take a chance, what if I don't like it and get stuck with it for few thousand miles?

RE: New Tire Prices - the Ferret - 10-01-2014

I'm at 7500 miles on my 14 now. Dunlops. Front is showing signs of scalloping on sipes to right and left of center and shows 3/32 remaining. Rear looks pretty good but is flattening out in center showing 4/32 tread remaining. I'm thinking they will last the season or 10,000 miles which ever comes first.
