RE: 2013 or 2014 - the Ferret - 11-11-2014 https://rideapart.com/articles/honda-cb1100f-set-for-production-in-2009 http://www.ncsportbikes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3067 Actually the iteration of CB 1100 the world received in 2010 ( and that we got in 2013) was very different than the prototype shown at the 2009 Tokyo motor show and MUCH different than the designers original drawings. It didn't conjure up the image of old guys riding easy. The bike we got is what it morphed into...and seeing as how the 4 into 1 is more inline with one of Hondas supersport 900F 750F 400F I contend the dual exhaust version is a more relaxed version of the 2013. Check out the Tokyo CB 1100F prototype pics above .... different tank, seat, exhaust, rear shocks, swing arm, rear tail light, grab rails, fork ears, turn signals, rear caliper mounting etc. maybe the frame, engine and wheels and forks are the same as ours, but I doubt it. And I know you know that I was joking about the 6th gear.

RE: 2013 or 2014 - huxley2_imp - 11-11-2014 Randy. Welcome to the forum. The posts are all the board. I bought a 2013 in August, saving $3k. Love it. If you are in north La, come see mine. I personally much prefer the sleeker styling of the first generation design, particularly the red tank with black engine and the black cast wheels with polished rims. Still, there are some notable differences to consider and knowing how you're primarily going to use the bike also comes into play. If I were going to spend a lot more time out on the highway, I'm sure that I would appreciate the 6th gear offered by the 2014 models. But I tend to stick more to the backroads (I also prefer to keep my CB1100 free of any kind of fairing or windshield). While I don't care as much for the shape of the larger tank, I would probably appreciate the longer range if I was regularly going on longer rides. I can do without anything else that adds additional weight. I do like the extra functionality Honda added to the instrumentation, but that is nothing that I strongly desire and the design of the new cockpit doesn't appeal to me all that much. Bottom line: the 2014 models offer some nice upgrades that are going to appeal more to some people than others. As far as the styling goes, I think Honda got it right the first time around. Still, be it a 1st generation CB1100 or one of the 2nd generation derivatives, they are all fine machines. RE: 2013 or 2014 - Cormanus - 11-11-2014 Sigh. Some of us have a choice between 2010 or 2011 and it's hard to see any difference between them. They look pretty like the US 2013 model and they're fantastic. In my view, they're better than the CB750 K series. But that's just my opinion. I was fortunate to have the choice, in that the 2013 and 2014 were on the showroom floor together, and I could have my choice. Side by side, I just preferred the 2013, even before you consider the thousands in savings. RE: 2013 or 2014 - the Ferret - 11-14-2014 Ok I dug up the original drawing and prototype. I think this bike was actually shown at the 1999 Tokyo show as was originally designed to be a 750-900 cc machine ![]() [url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/imagejpg1_zpsdf4f3cf5.jpg.html] ![]() Found more info scroll to bottom of page [url=http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-Honda-CB1100.htm]http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-Honda-CB1100.htm RE: 2013 or 2014 - emptysea - 11-14-2014 Anyone else notice that Randy S. made the original post and that is the only post he's made anywhere on this forum? That we could turn his one question into 29 posts is certainly a testimony to the sense of community this forum. |
