US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - Ridem32_imp - 05-12-2014 I'm sure you can find a exact match in engine paint to match the honda
RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - Deanohh_imp - 05-12-2014 If you do it yourself and botch the prep, matching, or application, or are not happy in some way with the result.... Thats too bad.... because you will have changed a Honda problem into your problem. There's no warranty on the owners poor repairs. PVD?) finish on the engine of my CB has started flaking off in a small area between a couple of cooling fins. My dealer gavea suble hint few months ago. someone must have this type of issue. RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - Tysondusch_imp - 01-08-2015 Has anyone tried a solution here that worked well and has photos to share? Engine spray paint etc. Looking at a used 2013 here with a few flakes on the engine, I'd want to know how to fix if I purchased. Thanks RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - lukeduck_imp - 01-08-2015 I must really be missing something here. Let us not forget, it's a motorcycle. Exactly. It aint a museum piece. RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - NightRider_imp - 01-09-2015 So... anyone hear... what was the resolution? RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - grover_imp - 01-09-2015 My local dealership offered to repaint the engine case themselves and I agreed to wait and see if it would continue to spread (as I have an extended warranty). 8 months and 4k miles later, the spot has not spread or shown signs of lifting, which was my main concern. Based on it's size, it's not really visible unless you're inside of ~3 feet and looking for it so I'm not likely to do anything about it. grover RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - xNE0x_imp - 01-09-2015 It's a common issue I faced with my 1974 cb750k. I painted the heads and jugs black. It eventually flakes off, and I usually just touch it up unless I do a top end. It's going to happen unfortunately. RE: US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!! - Ole - 01-09-2015 I also have 3 or 4 chipped spots on the fins. I think in my case it might be stone chips. Our CB1100 has a small front fender and I have been known to travel gravel roads. My centerstand looks like it has been sandblasted. Not much paint left on the centerstand in quite a few areas. I might touch the centerstand up with some rattle can black but the fins I will leave be. Centerstand crappy pic: ![]() I may be wrong but I think the cause is riding so many gravel roads. I will paint it. |
