Glad you asked that question Ferret. Actually it is very smooth up to about 4800 to 5000rpm. Then you get a bit of a buzz only in the grips but nothing I have found to be overly bothersome. It smooths back out after 6000 or so. You never even need to run it much past 4000 or 4500 because there is an abundance of torque from 2500-3000rpm. I short shift almost all the time. Not because of the buzz but because this thing pulls so hard at low end that you don't need to rev it that much. 390lbs and 67hp with almost 50lb ft of torque is one fun bike.

Now it's my turn. Mr. Ferret. Since I technically own a CB1100 but have never really driven one. How would you describe the vibration level of your CB1100. At what point do you notice much vibration? And don't tell me you never feel any because all bikes vibrate to some extent. I'm mainly interested in the vibration or buzz felt in the grips. Feel free to pontificate profusely.

ModMaster, search for a thread on vibrations by JustPassinThru. He complained bitterly about it; others have very different responses. I think the answer is that it's a pretty personal thing.

I thought you WERE describing the CB1100 until you said 390 lbs ...LOL.
Your description accurately describes the CB1100 and is exactly how I ride mine, short shifting, using torque in lieu of HP, only I never go past maybe 4500 rpms (no reason to... for me). I honestly don't feel any buzziness in my CB1100. Smooth as silk. Speed limit here is 65. (70 in some spots) but where I ride, which is two lane secondary curvy country back roads, it's mostly 45-55 mph zones, which I will run up to a little over 60, so no reason for me to rev it past about 3500 rpms really. 4500 rpms on my bike is approx 90 mph. I NEVER ride that fast. If the vibes come in above 90 mph then I will never feel them. Bokobob said he has ridden to 95 a couple times and said his bike is smooth at that speed.
Is there some buzziness somewhere in the rev zone of a large displacement inline 4? Probably. I have just not found it, and truthfully since I haven't yet and don't plan on changing my riding style, probably never will.

My riding style pretty much equals that as described by the ferret.
I only use the four-lanes (110 kph speed limit - or 66 mph) as a last resort, otherwise I loaf around the wonderful winding coast roads we have here which generally have a 90 kph (55 mph) speed limit.
But that's not to say that I don't go a little over once in a while
What little vibration there is doesn't bother me at all.
This is easily the smoothest bike I have ever owned.

Thanks for your feed back guys. I have owned some real vibrators in my time so I think I know a thing or two about it. A 500 BSA single, a 79 Triumph Bonneville, and a 65 Ducati 350 single. I'm sure the CB will be just fine.

In my short-lived experience with my Dlx since last April (just under 2,400 mi), I have felt a mild buzziness in the seat 4500 - 4800 RPM. Seldom do I ever feel much vibration in the grips. Just for grins I have ridden with long-shifts, short-shifts, get-away-style accelerations, and gas-sipping mode. No matter how its ridden, the bike is buttery smooth across the rev range and speed range, with just a touch of buzziness in the seat as mentioned above.
Oh, BTW, I can personally confirm that the rev limiter does work at the factory-set speed of 112 mph ...but don't ask me how I know!
