That's the really great thing about the CB motor.. cruise at 2000 rpms..no problem.. run at 6000 rpms and bounce it off the limiter...no problem. It just doesn't care.

Around town I try to keep it between 2.5-3.5k. I rarely use 6th gear unless I'm on the highway. However you can put it in 3rd and do the majority of your city driving without shifting.

Same goes for the track with higher RPMs. 3rd and 4th at Jennings.

MMC's photo makes me realize how rarely I see 80 mph on my CB!

The photo was just such a perfect representation of every single day for me. 4k rpms, 80-or-so mph, commuter traffic. when you're on the highway every day 80 is pretty effortless, you'd be sitting at 80 a lot more often if you lived somewhere that required you to make a highway commute every day.

really, if you never get to 80, go out on a long highway ride sometime and just cruise at 80, you'll be shocked at how easy it is, like the bike isn't even breathing hard. even at 90 it's not breathing hard.

Yep, me too. My first 22 miles to work is 80 plus, next 20 or so is slow and go splitting lanes. The best part? My last 22 miles home is 80 plus!!!

My CB likes 2500 rpm. I have the Yoshi RS3 slip on, and that is where things converge for me. No lugging, good little burble from the pipe, no vibes.

That being said I have a terrible habit of running 1st gear to redline with a dumb grin on my face. Then I'll quickly shift to 2nd and enjoy the torque for a moment, then 4th or 5th and cruise at 2500 rpm.

Reading this thread and thinking about the question, I realize that I couldn't tell you what RPM I cruise at. I'm reminded that I don't really like cruising my CB1100 (or any other vehicle that I seem to enjoy spending time with out on the road for that matter). If I'm stuck traveling at a constant RPM, then I might as well be in my pickup truck complete with an automatic transmission and cruise control (of course). If I'm out on the road for the pleasure of riding (or driving), I try to avoid long stretches of road spent at constant speeds. Which I guess means that I try to avoid cruising, lol.
By the way, it was a different story when it came to my old 1967 Camaro convertible with it's 2-speed Powerglide transmission. (Now that's a vehicle that was made for cruising.)
