If you are still on the fence, I would say to use the shield. You will be very thankful the first time you hit an unexpected rain storm (which always seems to happen on trips for me.) You will have less road fatigue as well. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

Have a great time and safe trip with your lady!

Take the shield. Btw I have ridden the Red Arrow Highway many times. It is not necessarily winding but it is scenic and great little towns along the way. Holland Michigan is a great town to park the bike and just walk around. Great shops etc. So are the towns of New Buffalo and South Haven. The Red Arrow Road House has fantastic food for lunch or dinner and it is casual. Have fun.

I don't have a shield, but I think I would take one if I did...for all the reasons above. On the other hand, you may want to take a 2-up test run with her on the back and the shield on -- you could be pushing air right into her, making her uncomfortable and that's a bad thing at any time, but especially on an anniversary trip.

That is a good point. A test trip would be a good idea. I know my Dart Marlin took air off of my chest but made the wind noise in my helmet quite a bit louder. The air could really change for a rider on the back.

We've had multiple rides with the shield on in the past. The Plexistar II with my big frame shielding her even more, she's pretty much windless, but does notice more air coming towards her when the shield is off. I shall be bringing my shield after all this coercing.

Good idea. I swapped my little Deflector for the Plexistar on my last road trip. It saved me going through a few thunderstorms and one large swarm of bugs (I think they were beetles of some kind). After Bambi took my Plexistar out, I really missed it on the rest of the trip. My unprotected ride through 9 miles of marble sized hail was not fun. Neither was the wasp that flew up my sleeve and stung my arm.

If you've got some decent protection, it'll come in handy on the road.

Let's not leave out the deer that destroyed my good 'ol Plexistar Tongue Yeah, by the end of that trip I was inclined to think that the fates were picking on me.
