All depends. I'm in Missoula; I came here 18 months ago. When I packed out, March of 2014, Wisconsin was locked into a deep freeze. Meantime, Missoula had temperatures thirty degrees warmer - mid twenties. Felt like summer.
Last winter was pretty temperate - only one cold snap when temps were below 0. But that's in the valley here, or valleys - up on the mountain passes, it's a LOT colder.
Montana is complex. It's prairie and near-desert and woodlands and plains and mountains. It's a bit high and it's very high at the peaks. It is, however, mostly dry.
Last winter I had the BMW out and advertised for sale, in February. I was trying to take advantage of a warmish snap, but it stayed warm...forties. With the fairing on it, with heated grips, it was fine to ride...in fact, perfect.
I put maybe 800 miles on the BMW before I sold it and got the Honda. So actually, between the Honda, BMW and my TW, I probably put 15,000 miles on bikes this season.
