I have been away from this board recently, and just ran across this sad news, LR. Very upsetting circumstances for all riders, even more so for you personally.
A family of five was recently killed in their car on a 2-lane Kentucky road when an impatient guy in a pickup decided to pass at high speed across the double yellow, on a curve, on a hill and struck them head-on. Nothing can protect us against that kind of extreme, wanton, mindless negligence.

Guys, thanks for the condolences. Much appreciated. The only update I've had since the accident (well, it really wasn't an "accident" in my book) is that the guy was DUI. I don't know what his blood alcohol level was but in this state, DUI is not a felony until it's your third offense. He'll probably get a few years probation. Even though it's been cold and snowy here the past few weeks, I can tell you I've lost my spirit for riding.

This was more than DUI. It was DUI - manslaughter. Is *that* not a felony, whether first, second, *or* third?

Losing people we care about unexpectedly can knock anyone for a loop. The only thing to be thankful for is that she passed away quickly and didn't linger in pain. Though our hobby makes us easy targets that person could have down horrible damage to another vehicle as well. Why people ignore their responsibility to others by drinking and driving just amazes me.

Stichill, he was drunk and had been smoking marijuana. He has been charged with 5 counts of murder.

So very sorry to hear of this lady's death. We never know what the next moment may bring. Vigilance and gear aren't always enough.
