To purchase a CB1100, in the southwest, you will need an in-state address to register and insure it.
In Nevada, the previous owner keeps the license plate(s) and either turns them in to the Department of Motor Vehicles, before cancelling insurance, or puts them on the next vehicle, after registering the next vehicle.
In California and Arizona, the plate stays with the vehicle.
Nevada honors licenses issued by the appropriate government agency in another state or country. An International Driver License is not required for foreign visitors. Other states may differ.
If you bring your bike to the USA:
Will your current insurance cover you in the USA?
Will various states recognize that insurance?

My idea is, to put pieces together and draw up a map to collect points of interest and routes to ride. Got some hints from you already.
I talked to my friend Alex here in Germany recently and got some more ideas of shipping my ride to the USA. It would be more than 3,000 Euro. Buying a CB1100 is still an option.
If someone would like to accompany myself for some miles, I would really appreciate. This ride is not only about sightseeing, but also to meet people and make friends.
However currently I've not that much time to spend in planning that trip. Currently I'm soaked up to plan this year's ride, approx. 3,500 km round trip to the Balkan peninsula. This starts next Saturday, I will open up an extra thread for that.
End of summer the real planning starts to ride across the USA.

You can fly with your bike but better ship it a few hours before...
Buying, registering, insuring and then selling a bike...it may be a complex situation!!

Well, I guess it depends on what your objectives are. For me, I had a limited amount of time and certain non-negotiable points of interest - Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Graceland, BRP, Six Flags New England, New Brunswick to visit family - once I plotted those on a map it was clear that highway travel was necessary.
For me this was a bucket list trip as I was deploying to Afghanistan for 8 months immediately following my trip and there were no guarantees that I would be coming back or what shape I would be in if I did. Given the fact that I was wounded twice and can barely ride now I guess I wasn't wrong.
Also, I'm not as adverse to "slab" riding as some on here seem to be. Sometimes there is nothing I love more than a 1000km day ride and statistically speaking there are far less accidents on the highway.
You have a Phaeton? There can't be many of those around, Canada only got around 100 total IIRC.

I dont mind superslab in rural america, only in and around major cities, even then mostly at " rush hour" when it doesn't rush at all. Personally I'd rather slab it to the next thing I really want to see, than to ride thru yet another typical small town with stop lights and their own traffic issues. Can't imagine going all the way across this country on back roads only.
