RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - TwoBrothersBusa_imp - 11-05-2019 Looking good! RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - Csory_imp - 11-06-2019 Based on 2017EX's thread [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=12774]here, I wonder if adding a visual turn-signal indicator would be of interest? Functionality: activating the turn signal would flash the backlight of the gadget, and show a flashing full-screen two way arrow until the signal is turned off. Advantages: it would be a lot more visible than the OEM indicators (the small green arrows...) Wiring: I would not want to mess with the switch on the handlebar, but would hook into the wire going into the light bulbs. Using a contactless (Hall-effect) current sensor is a no-go because of the possibility of LED bulbs (too low power consumption to be reliably detected). There would be a small sub-panel to be added inside the headlight unit or under the seat where both the left and right indicators cables are accessible. Implications: As it requires one more input, a redesign of the electronics and cable harness is necessary. This would delay the Gadget project by about 3 weeks or so. Alternatively, I could re-purpose the coolant temp sensor but it would cut that functionality for liquid cooled bikes, which I would rather not do... Please let me know what do you think... RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - Bazbro_imp - 11-06-2019 I think this is an excellent addition, not so much for the CB1100 where it actually HAS a repeater, but for maybe older 'bikes where there is not a repeater or where the repeater is even less visible than the CB1100's. Having a repeater up into the eye line is much more effective. The big appeal of this device is that it is SO versatile, giving options for all kinds of 'bikes and all kinds of demands.. RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - GoldOxide_imp - 11-06-2019 Hey Csory: I strongly recommend keeping the interface for the coolant temperature sensor. For me personally, I have no issue with the Honda instrument cluster indicators. Alternatively if you still feel otherwise: Make a temperature sensor programmable for either oil OR coolant. In this case you won't get both, but the rider can choose which configuration they want for their bike. - - - I feel feature creep has legs. Might be good to turnover Version 1.0 and get user feedback? RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - TCinNC_imp - 11-06-2019 I agree with GO. RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - Csory_imp - 11-07-2019 Ok, I'll take it as a "no" for now... Had a fleeting idea - tried to detect turn indicator activity via periodic drops in battery voltage. As long as the engine is off, it worked brilliantly - nice 100mV spikes at every blink. However, once fired up the engine the generator spewed so much white noise that I could not detect those drops anymore (at least not reliably). Even tried AC coupling + FFT to no avail ![]() Will go ahead with the original version and maybe add turn signal indicator later... RE: Thinking of a new gadget... - GoldOxide_imp - 11-07-2019 Yeah, a running engine ignition system is quite the source of EMI.
