One of my less successful ideas was the replacement of the speedo face which unfortunately resulted in an erratic zero-point on the mechanism. I did think about attempting a fix on the servo motor in the speedo itself, however the eBay gods smiled down on me when I found this 2017 speedo listed for parts. The seller said that the display had failed but the two instruments worked, so I made my bid and am glad to say won it for £72 including carriage - less than I paid for the mph dial! Ho hum, you live and learn. All I needed to do now was to strip out the clocks, pull my instrument cluster apart and change them over. I did this tonight, taking photos along the way as I figured there might be someone interested in what's inside and how the clocks are assembled. The first three photos are of the eBay clocks. Next photo is of my clock set which has the speedo zero at 40mph. Two allen screws remove the chrome covers, three black self-tappers remove the back. The mounting frame is removed by undoing the four M6 (10mm a/f) nuts. Another black self tapper on the cable p-clip, lever out the soft plastic covers and the wiring loom can be unplugged from the main board. The bezel & circuit boards are fixed to the (white) frame with 17 silver self-tapping screws - just remove them all. I did this with a power driver, however one note on that is not to use it to put the instruments back together with same as the screws can easily be over-tightened which would strip the fixing holes. RE: White House K10 - a story of regeneration - Ninemeister_imp - 11-03-2020 Carrying on from where I left off: This is the view of the back of the main circuit board showing the wired links to the tacho and speedo underneath. A gentle wiggle is enough to remove the connector from the board. The main board now lifts off, leaving the clocks loosely sat in the bezel. When the board is removed, two plastic pegs will drop out. These are the push-rods for the instrument buttons, one either side. You can see on propped up in the corner of the bezel. And as if by magic, the clocks are on the bench. The 2014 clocks have a satin black background with an orange needle. The 2017 versions have a dark green background with white needles, red tip and chrome centre cover. RE: White House K10 - a story of regeneration - Ninemeister_imp - 11-04-2020 The chrome trim and round bezel are held on with three small black screws which I removed to replace a scratched trim. Be careful removing these, the screws are VERY tight so a perfect fit screwdriver is essential to avoid rounding out the screw heads. Before completing the re-assembly I tested the cluster on the bike. Tacho worked, centre display worked, warning lights worked. Obviously I would have to ride the bike to test the speedo. Refitted all screws, plugged in wiring, screwed down the p-clip. Frame held on with nuts, outer cover with 3 more screws and the unit was good to fit. I'll play with the left-overs later...
