RE: wire spoke wheels - jlhalsey_imp - 08-04-2014 all parts are new OEM Honda in Honda packaging. Tires and tubes Dunlop Radial D205 Sportmax Touring. Both axles are supplied. New sprocket and hub, rubber biscuits are re-used as is the rear brake disc. both front discs are new. Takashi supplied all items and parts schematics highlighted so you can visualize the correct orientation and location of all the parts. You need to have the tires mounted and balanced. the price was no where near the figure mentioned by Randy B. The wheels look muscular, quality stuff. Rear brake caliper shipped today so will post when finished. RE: wire spoke wheels - jim rosenthal_imp - 08-04-2014 I tried to find out from Honda if they plan to offer the CB1100 with the wire spoke wheels for the 2015 model year. Well, if they know, they aren't saying. And there's no information about when the new model information will come out. Fun deferred is fun lost, I think, so I am going to watch JHalsey's project with a great deal of interest, and see how things turn out. He does not have ABS, so I will have to ask Mr. T about that- do the Honda wheels that he sells work with the ABS system? And anything else he can tell me. Add another $1200 to $1500 too? RE: wire spoke wheels - Randy B - 08-04-2014 (08-04-2014, 12:26 AM)jlhalsey_imp Wrote: all parts are new OEM Honda in Honda packaging. This is a good thing. Everything I was seeing was the wheels would be around $2,500 for the set and then the rotors alone would be in the range of $300 each (I thought you needed to replace all 3) and then add in the tires and tubes. I never even considered the rear caliper being different so take off the rear rotor and add in the rear caliper....probably close to a wash. Well it turns out Mr. T. has a pretty good deal going on the wheels, tires, tubes and rotors for about $2,125 as of today. Not sure about the added cost of the caliper, but my guess would be in the $200 range so my revised total guess would be with shipping around $2,400 which isn't really all that bad. wire spoke wheels - grover_imp - 08-04-2014 Anyone given any thought to just buying the hubs and rear rotor, then lacing the hubs to new alloy tubeless rims (Sun or similar)? It might not be too different in terms of cost and could open the door to a lot more tire options, especially for those folks interested in a wider rear tire. Just a thought... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: wire spoke wheels - Randy B - 08-04-2014 I don't believe the hubs are sold separately, but I don't have access to a EX phish so I can't b e sure. RE: wire spoke wheels - jlhalsey_imp - 08-29-2014 Ok, here is an update. The rear caliper solved the width problem. However, the location of the hydraulic port for the brake hose is rotated to the rear about 30 degrees compared to the stock caliper. I was able to reorient the stock brake line to reach the new caliper but had to abandon the OEM attachment hardware on the swing arm. A longer rear brake hose is on the way from Mr T so i can route along the swing arm and reattach with the OEM brackets for a completely stock look. The caliper replacement process meant bleeding the rear brake. The meant finding the fluid reservoir which is conviently located under the seat behind the tool storage bucket and the fuse/relay module under a cross brace which prevents you from removing the cap. To add fluid then requires one to unbolt the reservoir from the attachment to the rear fender which requires a 1/4" drive socket and wobble attachment and considerable patience to loosen. Then the reservoir can be pulled forward far enough to add DOT 4. I give Honda an F- for this crap. Maybe someone else has figured out an easier way to top off the reservoir, if so i would love to hear about it. I have only riden the bike a few miles today to work, have to scuff the tires in but it rides just like before except to my eye looks more "awesomer". Will post a picture shortly if i can find the attachment button which does not seem to appear with "Quick Reply". Have OEM 2014 DLX exhaust system on my dining room table and center stand that i am going to attempt to install this weekend. Hopefully will be fewer adventures than with the spoked wheels. Here is the one picture i have at this point. ok that didn't go so well. no picture appeared. stay tuned. ok that didn't go so well. no picture appeared. stay tuned. wire spoke wheels - Cormanus - 08-29-2014 Looks very good indeed. Time consuming to clean, increased cost of tire replacement since the tubes should be replaced with the tire, one flat and the tire shot. One of the great attractions was the mag wheels on the CB. I don't mind the look, but thankful it came with mags. |
