RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - Gone in 60 - 03-29-2021 Interesting subject! I can't live without some small form of wind protection, since I spend most of my time at sustained freeway speeds around 60-80 mph. I had always ridden with the Dart Classic flyscreen that was on my bike when I bought it. But I recently bought a slightly smaller Piranha screen. It doesn't give as much protection, but I had the sensation that the bike felt a bit more athletic with the smaller screen. Probably just the fact that more wind was hitting me. RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - Ben70_imp - 03-29-2021 Afraid we may have strayed from the OP's point, not that that ever happens. To the point, up to 85 to 90 mph I don't feel any real sail effect, even in a crosswind. Anyone else? Ben RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - treedoc_imp - 03-29-2021 ![]() I have a small screen, I took it off and was immediately impressed at the feel of the wind and the sensation of having nothing in front of you. I also liked the look of the bike with no screen. After riding for a couple of months I put it back on. My daily commute consists of about 40km of expressway, and the screen just made it more pleasant. It keeps the wind/rain/bugs off my torso, leaves my helmet in clean air with no buffeting, and has no negative effect on handling. It also improves fuel economy. I suppose every rider/screen combination is different and individual results will vary. For me, if I was just riding around town and on Sunday rides I would take the screen off again, but for my particular use the screen is staying on. RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - jtopiso_imp - 03-29-2021 I don't tend to do much highway, so I rarely miss a screen. It's a good point from Alfgaxatico that it's not only changing the aestetics (for better or worse), but also it can affect the handling (also for better or worse? Some seem to like their bike better with the screen, some remove it right away after trying one). Bikes are not like cars: just the seating position of the driver, different driver weights, adding a trunk or modifying aero with a screen can make significant changes in handling. But "changes" not always means "worse"... RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - Alfgaxatico_imp - 03-29-2021 I'm not really saying it's worse; carry screen; only that the mode of use of the CB is more noble; without screen ... as in a scooter that comes standard with a screen of X cm in height; you put a "sports" low; and change the driving format. then this one who does not care what he wears ... since he does not notice anything .. RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - the Ferret - 03-29-2021 In the fall and winter and on some tours, I will run a small shield to block the chilly wind from my torso ![]() but in the summer I like to run it without ![]() Takes 5 minutes or less to take it on or off RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - GoldOxide_imp - 03-30-2021 I found the Dart Marlin wind screen was good enough fashionably and functionally for about up to 120 km/h. Importantly: It alleviated maybe around 50% of wind pressure off the chest. That was good enough for me. RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - Haggard Rider_imp - 03-30-2021 ...whereas I was most unimpressed with the Dart Marlin I had on - lots of buffeting and dirty air from passing and followed vehicles - I was much happier without it. Same for me. I like the Marlin for its looks and wind breaking. I rarely ride on high speed highways, preferring our lovely winding coastal roads. Our speed limit is 110 kph and you know I would never speed
RE: WIND PROTECTION CB 1100 ex 2015 - yes o no ? - Mixagon_imp - 03-30-2021 The main reason I have a small puig screen on is to protect the clocks area, its easier to just wipe a screen than clean all the nooks and crannys behind it. |
