Harley guys are just guys. Like the guys that own other brands. Some are riders, some just own bikes. I have two neighbors that own Harley's, they love owning a Harley and saying they have a Harley, but I ride more in a week than they ride in a year ..seriously. I think one is 6 years old and has 1200 miles on it. It was 4 years before he was ready for his 600 mile service. If the other rides his bike 6 times a year I'd be surprised. That's ok with me, and I don't put them down for it, they are just not "riders". Doesn't matter what brand of motorcycle they would own, they would not ride any more. They are not "Pirates" though cause they don't wear ANY gear when they ride. T shirts and blue jeans. The one rode by the house yesterday to stop and talk and he was wearing shorts and sandals. With an open primary drive. WOW! He does wear a doo rag on occasion (even in his Jeep) but the other doesn't. Nice guys though and always stop me to talk when they see me riding in the neighborhood. Another neighbor has a Honda Valkrie and his riding consists of riding down to a restaurant by the river and back one Sunday a month (50 miles round trip) and eating breakfast as he watches the boats go by. He's not much of a rider either. He just retired maybe he will ride more now, but I doubt it. Yet another neighbor has a 3 cyl Triumph 800. He rides a bunch, and I rode with him once when he had a BMW K 75. He's what someone referred to above as a " Fireman" lol. Head to pinkie toe ADV gear. I think he has Aerostitch and Twisted Throttle on speed dial. We used to have a "Power Ranger" kid on a 600 Honda CBR in the neighborhood, but he finally moved out of his mom and dad's house. Don't know where he went, but I don't see or "hear" him anymore. Pretty high motorcycle density for a neighborhood with 20 houses, with lots of retired people.

This week is great weather in Cinti, 80 degrees and clear all week. Lots of guys out riding. Yesterday I probably saw 75 guys on Harleys, or Harley clones...C90's, Vulcan's, VTX's and the like, and one guy on a Honda sportbike. Not one was wearing a helmet. Not one. The Honda rider had his ball cap on backwards, but that was all the gear he was wearing. I waved at them all, maybe 6 waved back. The Honda rider dipped his head. No biggie. Life is too short and the weather too nice to let it bother me.

I do, in my head, think it's rude that someone doesn't wave back. It's like walking up to someone, saying hello, and they just ignore you and don't say hello back. Some people are like that. Like I said, life's too short and it's too nice out to let it bother me.

Just got a PM from KyHiker1100. he's going to be in the area so we are meeting for lunch down in N Ky in about an hour or so. I'll be the SOTGATT guy on the old looking new UJM, waving at every bike I see. lol.

Most HD guys wave back to me or have already initiated the wave before me. I only know this because a) most guys wave back and b) I don't usually know if they're riding an HD or some other cruiser. While I enjoy being waved at, it doesn't bother me when the other rider ignores me. I just figure that they didn't see me...possibly because their eyeballs are rattling too much LOL (I just couldn't resist)

well shock of shocks... coming home from my ride with Kyhiker and here comes my neighbor on the Valkrie, helmet, leather jacket, gloves headed out for a ride at 2:30 on a Monday afternoon. Gave me a big thumbs up as he passed. I almost ran off the road. Good to see him out riding (and that 6 cyl Valkrie sounded sooooo good! Oh man!

I nod or wave to all riders of powered two wheelers including scooter riders, some acknowledge others don't, that's up to them. I don't think it's all to do with what they ride, I think some of them are just ignorant of the practice having recently started biking and others just can't be bothered or are not concentrating.
Either way I will carry on regardless waving or nodding to other riders because I've done it for so long it is second nature.

I dunno. This subject is dynamite...you play with it, someone's gonna get hurt or kilt.

I see it both ways...and Chip, obviously cultured and of varied tastes, owns one of ours and one from the Dark Side.

Great. No problem with it. On one level, I'm in complete agreement - riding is riding.

THAT SAID...my lo-rent apartment, rented for quick approval a year ago, is right against an Interstate on one side and fronts an important street. A mile down the street is the region's H-D dealership.

I don't go there so I don't see if it's a masquerade party...not my scene; not my business. BUT...with pavement on both sides, and the weather warming up...this afternoon I noticed....how MANY times I hear the open-pipe Blat-blat-BLATBLATBLAT as they roll by.

It's annoying. It really IS. Of all the things to use as identity...ANNOYING NOISE?

In my old age, I have a few moral precepts. Calling attention to one's self is unbecoming. One's work or art should do its own speaking.

And calling attention to one's self by CAUSING DISRUPTION...is the mark of a lout.

Other than that...if apehangers, with your hands going numb from neuralgia from being held over your head for hours...with minimal springing, and your tailbone taking it all because you're in the Barcalounger position...if that's your thing, who are any of us to say otherwise?

SOTGATT? I prefer KVRGATT.

To address the thread title. I couldn't possibly "Say what you want about HD/HD riders......" Why? Well, I want to remain a member of this forum. Smile

Cheers, and HD riders should be warned that this post was meant to contain traces of humour.
