RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Cormanus - 01-23-2018 Great video, Mike. Brings back some really good memories. What is your setup (microphone type, how it's mounted, etc..)? Ulvetanna, you've got to explain yourself here as I really have no clue what you're talking about. Check your PM's, boss. ![]() RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Cormanus - 01-24-2018 Drat! I was curious too.
RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Lord Popgun - 01-24-2018 Use your super powers to read their PMs...
RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Cormanus - 01-24-2018 Guth's only given me the Junior X-Ray specs, popgun. Not fair is it? RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - use2b_imp - 01-24-2018 memphismike i want to apologize my post came out different than what i meant. that was some amazing riding on a full size GW and something i would not or could not do myself. got caught up in the Trumpy Bear thing and it cracks me up seeing a biker guy with one. RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Ulvetanna_imp - 01-24-2018 In my earlier years doing huge group rides, I rode with several large organizations, most of the members riding touring bikes. Gold Wing Road Riders Association was one of them, for example. We'd get 50-100 riders signed up for a route and spend all day chasing each other around. It was amazing to see how well those guys, sometimes two-up, could hustle their bikes around the curves. There was NEVER any freeway, it was always mountains and canyons. I also used to ride with the Concours Owner's Group back when the founder was still alive. Those guys were certifiable, really. We used to do Death Valley, Big Bear, all over. So I have spent a lot of time following guys riding the big bikes; a couple of the sportbike buddies I had also had a pair of Yamaha Venture Royale's. They would alternate weekends on GSX-R 1100s and the Ventures. It was nearly impossible to keep those guys in sight no matter what they rode. I just sent Guth what I thought was a book but after that post by VLJ, which I am having trouble interpreting, my PM looked like a shopping list. I still am not sure if he bought the bike and is using the woman as an allegory, metaphor, simile, or what the heck is going on. Just goes to show, you put up a picture of a pretty girl and you will get page views. Yet another "first" for the CB1100 forum; using pulchritude to get hits! I thought I had seen it all when the Ferret cracked the ton...what's next? RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - Cormanus - 01-24-2018 I'm pretty sure he bought the bike. I'm also pretty sure that the use of pulchritude for any reason will not greatly be encouraged. Twice may be enough. I can't remember whether you were around for Hondahoney episode at the end of 2016. It did not end well. But then it wasn't nearly as clever as VLJ's work. RE: Wish I was on CB1100 on the Dragon!!!! - emptysea - 01-24-2018 pulchritude [puhl-kri-tood, -tyood] noun physical beauty; comeliness. We use pulchritude all the time here. The envelope is being sorely pushed these days. I watched a documentary about Hugh Hefner, and I think the most revealing thing about it was that the most important business decision he ever had to make was whether to match a competitor in terms of what was being shown in the magazine's images. I believe he thought it over for about a microsecond and then upped the ante. Frankly I was surprised the mods didn't just delete that image posthaste. ![]() But maybe the times, they are a changin'. ![]() (01-24-2018, 08:53 AM)Cormanus_imp Wrote: Guth's only given me the Junior X-Ray specs, popgun. Not fair is it? I wanted Guth to read my blurb first to make sure it didn't come off as irresponsible, lol! Here you go, take it for what it's worth... That riding style seen in the Gold Wing video is all about maintaining a pretty high average speed constantly, and trusting to a perfect line and clean pavement in every turn. My style is "in slower, out faster". If I want to go around someone (be it racetrack or street, either one) I will pass on straight, assuming it's clear and I have the HP, and compress the deceleration into a much shorter distance (brake hard and later) while still upright before the corner. I will usually enter the corner a little more slowly than the rider I've passed (assuming he's moving along pretty well) use a little less lean angle, and get the bike onto the meat of the tire (rolling the bike toward upright) as soon as possible so when I can see the exit of the turn, I can begin acceleration as soon as possible. Basically, it's a "late brake/trail brake/late turn/tight line/less lean angle/early acceleration" type of technique, taught widely by every track day school I've been to [read: Freddie Spencer, Keith Code, Reg Pridmore, Jason Pridmore, Trackxperience, et. al.] My style is more like a "Yo-Yo" and doesn't lend itself at all to group rides. I learned to race on a small, lightweight motorcycle and that's the technique one has to use when the bike has less power. It gives more options and if adjusted for conditions can be quite safe as well. |
