D***H**D sold it to someone else as 'he couldn't wait' for my buddy to be back in state this Saturday...which is a B.S. move IMO since he said he would be available for us last Sunday but then never answered any communication while we were sat here waiting with the truck and trailer.
Argh.

Stuff like this always comes down to the seller, and I've been on all sides of it. But your situation started to sound sketchy, and maybe you did dodge a bullet.
Last year, the conversation going back and forth between me and the seller of a potential project bike started to sound weird, lost the title, oh wait, we found it, oh wait, we lost it again, and between the bank and the sellers house, I pulled over and stopped, and thought a minute. I get excited about buying something like a motorcycle, and had to weigh the increasing sketchiness against my excitement. I changed my mind, turned around, and put the money back in the bank.
There is some honor among sellers. Last month, when my Enfield came up, the deal was very, very attractive. So much so that I replied within 20 minutes of his listing, figuring it wouldn't last. I was coming from about 80 miles away to look at it, and the seller appreciated that. He said "In consideration of your distance, you sound serious about the bike, but I have to tell you, I've got other people interested. If you are on your way, I'll hold it for you." I gave him the arrival time my navigation was showing. That was good enough for him, and he gave me the first shot to buy, telling me he had people waiting for my decision.
I think my weirdest one was showing up to buy a riding mower. I had a truck, but no ramps. Five minutes later, another guy showed up with a truck, and he had ramps.
I was technically first, but I would need help getting the mower into my truck. The other guy didn't need help, and the seller said "The guy who can load it himself gets the sale!"

Well I have a bad back- so would not have been able to help lift a mower into a truck either.
Yea money talks- but since the guy blew us off the day before, I'd hope he would take that into consideration...but nah.
Frustrating. Hope whoever the new owner of the bike is treats it right.

Sorry to hear! Some folk. It's really not that difficult to keep one's commitments.
I had a similar letdown years ago I like to refer to as my Saab story.

There are good people in this world- and others who are only concerned about themselves at any cost- others be damned.
Hopefully over their lifetimes- enough people recognize their behavior that it results in a net negative to them.

Looking back, the guy who sold me my CB1100 tried to back out of the deal.
I looked at the bike, we shook hands, but it was a Sunday, and I was about to leave for a week. So, bank wasn't open, I couldn't get cash until I got back home.
I left him a check deposit.
While I was away, he started thinking he might want to keep the bike after all. I came back with cash, excited to get the bike, and he started stammering a bit, saying he'd been thinking... a voice shouted from another room, his wife... "Don't listen to him. The bike is for sale. Honey, take his money, and hand him the keys."
He called me a few times after the sale, saying "If you decide you don't like it, I'll gladly buy it back!"

Last century, in the cold winter of February 1999, I read a local advertisement for a red CBX with 10,000 km on sale.
So I called the seller and made an appointment the next day to buy his bike for CAD7,500, which was what he wanted.
I took 2000 CAD cash with me as a deposit to show that I was seriously interested.
When I arrived, his bike had been parked inside the house for quite some time.
The bike was in perfect condition except for the throttle cable which was broken but I was able to operate it with pliers.
When I asked him to prepare the documents, he said that he feels very fond of his motorcycle and does not want to sell it. I waved CAD 2,000 cash in front of his face, prepared a check, and raised the price to CAD 8,000, but after two hours of our conversation, the guy refused to sell.
When I got home I called him 2-3 more times over the next couple of days and offered C$10,000 just to see what would happen but the sale never went through...

That sounds like such a sad situation for him. Every couple has their issues, but one that I don't have is my wife's disapproval over things related to motorcycles and trips on motorcycles. She will never ride with me, and never wanted me to influence our kids towards riding, but otherwise she has a "sure, go for it" attidtude when it comes to my interest in bikes. Of course, she did increase the life insurance she has on me...
