My F800ST and GT require a 24mm (I think) hex drive to remove the front axle. Instead of buying a $20 tool, I insert the drive end of a spark plug socket into the axle. It's the exact size. I then insert a 3/8" extension into the socket from the spark plug side, attach my ratchet to the extension, and voila, instant axle removal tool. Easy peasy.
I still have the OE tool pouches from my '76 CB400F and '78 CB750F2. The bikes are long gone but I still use the tools. They're not the best quality but I've had them for so long, they feel like family.

My 17mm hex wrench was not needed to remove the front wheel. A new 22mm socket for less than $5 filled the bill. I already had smaller metric sockets for the pinch bolts, etc.
