RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - AzBob_imp - 01-13-2016 I use Simple Green and a rag, then lube with Pro Honda Chain Lube with Moly, wiping off the excess. RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - YHK_imp - 01-13-2016 kerosene, use a toothbrush. and finishing with a MOTOREX chain cleaner. RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - LongRanger_imp - 01-13-2016 This will open a can of worms, but I mentioned in another forum that I routinely used Simple Green to clean my bike (not just the chain) and was promptly warned that it attacked aluminum and to not use it. I never noticed any problems but the admonishment was universal and this was a fairly credible (and opinionated) bunch. I took their word for it. RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - nvbobr_imp - 01-13-2016 I sprayed it good with WD40 to clean off the white grease from the factory. Since that original cleaning, I have just brushed on a small amount of 80W90 gear oil immediately after every long ride, roughly every 150 miles; no real cleaning involved, just a quick wipe with a rag before applying new oil. RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - Razor - 01-13-2016 I was using WD-40. Worked well, decided to try the Walmart generic and was pleasantly surprised to see it worked well also. I think a can around here cost $1.87 . RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - quietguy_imp - 01-13-2016 I'll check the Walmart brand... thanks, Razor. RE: Chain Cleaning - Methods and Products - Django - 01-13-2016 Some guy here reported about wiping some part of the chain at every refueling stop, with an oiled brush, he carries under the seat for that purpose. Can't find the posting anymore. Anybody else? Here's an interesting video about chain cleaning and WD-40. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/mc-garage-video-will-wd-40-destroy-your-motorcycle-chain-o-rings?src=SOC&dom=tw&cmpid=enewsMCG011516&spPodID=030&spMailingID=24482656&spUserID=NjMwODY3NTExMDgS1&spJobID=721881201&spReportId=NzIxODgxMjAxS0 |
