Main thing is to get what you want and know you will be happy with and can live with. As for extended warranties I figure the odds are in their favor or they would not sell them. Most catastrophic failures will happen right off the bat from my experience so you would be covered anyway if there is some fatal flaw in the engine or something.

I once worked in a large multi line dealer and it was the F & I guy who was in charge of selling extended warranties . It was one way for
his dept. to make a profit. He sold a lot but hardly ever to new Honda owners. He often was the butt of a lot of jokes about trying to sell to new Honda owners. His office had windows that you could see in so you could make faces etc..
Really fun times.

I've ponied up for 3 brand new bikes in my life (2 Hondas and a Kaw). Never opted for the extended warranty and never wished I had. As a matter of fact, none of those bikes ever had anything done under the standard warranty either.
Edit: Just remembered I bought a new Harley back in '83. That bike spent 3 of the 6 months I owned it in the dealer's shop. That one would have been worth buying an extended warranty!

Glad to hear it. I didn't think I would need it but this would be my first new purchase so I'm learning it all.
I figured it was a Honda, I've never heard of one going bad that was treated at least half way decent.

Here's a thought... seeing that your soon to be moving to Seattle... but buying new 2014 model "now" & wanting to ride around Sheridan, WY for some time before move... & you are 6 hours from Denver dealer as closest to you... who most likely you will not really be using much for service after purchase... why not consider a "fly & ride" home trip & get your "best-price" from some of the Midwest/south dealers that have been mentioned in Tennessee or in southern Georgia?... that way you get a great "lowest" price from volume dealer & you get a nice road trip to get acquainted with your new ride!... you will not be needing a "long-term" relationship with your purchasing dealer due to your impending move to great North-West anyhow... just a thought... would be a great trip back to Sheridan, WY in Spring 2014 on your 2014 CB1100 ABS... if you decide to do this... just ask about the "best" price dealers on forum & you will get some great references from the forum members... I'll bet... just think...a great first ride on your new bike... through some of the very scenic roads in the USA!

A thought... and a question for those more knowledgeable about this stuff than I...
Is an 1,800-mile road trip on a brand-new bike a wise idea? Seems like it would be tricky to break it in properly. I imagine that you'd definitely want to get the oil changed once or twice on your way home and be mindful of how hard you're riding. No?

There is a 600 mile service. Bit of a leap of faith on a brand new bike, but it is a reliable Honda. Have to install a windscreen or be a manly man.
