Been following it's development since Tokyo Motor show 1999. Was disappointed when it was released in Japan and not in the U.S. Then word got out that it was coming and I went to my dealer and told him I wanted the first one he got. He informed me it wasn't coming to the US. Couple weeks later he called and told me Honda said it WAS coming and the first one he got was mine. The next year the same thing happened with the DLX and I got the first one of those he got too.

I was sending American Honda Emails and letters. Even a few phone calls, telling them to bring the CB1100 to the states, years before it was actually imported. Is that soon enough? Smile

Since I had sold my last motorcycle, 2011 Harley Sportster 1200 Custom, I was without a motorcycle and knew that couldn't last long. I had been looking at other makes and models and weighed the pros and cons of each. I knew I was tired of Harleys and wanted something different. Almost bought a nice Triumph Thunderbird 1600 but decided not to since there's not a dealer close by. I went in the local Honda dealer and was looking at a new CB1100 and the salesman told me they just got a used 2014 in the other day with less than 600 miles on it and they could make me a good deal. They talked me into taking for a ride and I knew it would fit my needs well and I wanted it. Only thing I don't like is the lack of accessories for it, mainly like a passenger backrest. The guy that bought it new had a factory luggage rack installed so at least I have that on it.

I had my Honda Grom in for a fuel pump recall and noticed a 2014 CB1100 Deluxe sitting in the front display window. I took pictures and kept going back into my photos to look. I was also considering the new Ducati Scrambler Classic and ultimately decided on the Scrambler. After 3 months of waiting though, I finally had a chance to try riding the Scrambler and decided I couldn't pass up the CB1100. Unfortunately, by the time I had cancelled my Ducati pre-order, the 2014 deluxe models were all sold out. A couple more weeks of searching though ultimately turned one up in Arkansas (originally purchased from a dealer in Cocoa Beach Florida). It now resides in the Western suburbs of Chicago Thumbs Up

Not long at all. I'm sure I've told this story in some form before, but...

I sold my V-strom 650 in April 2014 thinking I wasn't going to want to ride for a while, but I was wrong. I brought my old Honda 175 out of storage and rode it a bit, but short rides around town weren't enough. I started looking for a cheap bike for around $3k. Tried to buy my neighbors non-running 883 Sporty, looked at some Buells, and finally went down to the local powersports superstore to check out a used FZ1. I hated the ergos on it and then I saw the CB. I always knew about it and admired it, but considered it too expensive and too impractical being a street only naked bike. Things had changed such that all I wanted was a fun roadster type bike, so when I found a used one I could afford the payment on, I jumped. It was literally an on the spot decision...something I struggle with...deciding things.

Well, let's see...1 minute to glance at it at the dealer, 15 minutes for a short test ride, and that was it. Now I'm thinking I'd like to have 6 speeds and ABS so I may be looking for a deluxe this fall/winter.

It took me about three days.

I was at the dealer looking at a used BMW K that he had...price was right but the bike was a basket case. Waste of time...so I tried to mitigate the time lost by wandering through his showroom looking at the eye candy. And there it was...it just screamed out to me; so different from the crotch-rockets and dual sports and parody cruisers there.

I sat on it and it seemed...a trifle tight. No surprise; just about every Asian bike is. One more reason I leaned towards BMW. But I researched it; and I could see I could scoot back a bit on the UJM saddle...and the dealer and I started negotiations.

Start to finish, about five days.

Cruised to my local dealership to see one. Not there. They had no interest, and weren't ordering any. Went to the second closest, way out of my way, they had one coming out of a crate. So I got to see it get prepped for the sales floor... where it sat all of 20 minutes while I decided right then and there it was mine. A sold tag and a deposit later, I was arranging to swap my Shadow for a CB. Rode it home a few days later. And yes, I took the highway partway. Years of looking and waiting... now I just need a 70s CB750 to fill the empty space in my garage.

I wasn't even aware of the bike and wasn't looking just surfing very late one Thursday evening when I stumbled onto the bike on the internet. By Saturday morning I had the last '13 ABS in a 5 state region in my garage. I would have done it Friday but I was booked all day & evening. So I would say I was a love at first sight guy. Been absolutely loving it ever since! Banana

When I first saw the pictures of it I thought, "Oh man, that's so cool" and I was glad that it was coming to the US. Driving home from a doctor appointment one day I drove past the Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki dealer and one was sitting out front. I went in and the owner said, "It's used, you want to take it for a ride?" Well, after riding it around town, that was it, I was smitten. Biker
