The stock CB1100 suspension to way too soft, IMHO.
I went with IKON in the rear and Race Tech springs up front.

Funny, I find the stock suspension way too stiff and have mine set on full soft all the way around. At 200 lbs geared up you wouldn't think that the case, but I prefer a softer ride rather than a taut " racer" ride, and right now, even on full soft it beats me up like getting hit with a 2x4 in the tush going over any bump.

For me, the best thing is to ride a new bike as stock as you can for a good 1000 miles, and then think about any upgrades. Give it a chance to tell you what it does / doesn't have, what it can / can't do for you. Then you'll make decisions that are based on the bike you have, not on what you think it has/doesn't, decisions based not on past experiences with other bikes, but on the CB1100. Now the first thing you just HAVE to buy is.... : )

Interesting! I changed my stock shocks for the same reason. Even on the softest setting my back would feel a jolt on every noticeable bump. The new Icons were made for my body weight (they call you to find out your weight and how you ride before they ship them) and have adjustable rebound capabilities. They have completely corrected the ride, so looking for a more rigid suspension isn't the only reason for new shocks.

I highly recommend an Alaskan Sheepskin Butt Pad (actually product name). Night-and-day distance comfort vs. the stock seat. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably get one big enough to cover the pillion too.
