My son is turning 12 soon. I recently took him for his first motorcycle ride ever on the CB. He loved it! He still loves hanging out with me, but not looking forward to the day when he's suddenly too cool to hang out with dad.
However, if I do say so myself, I'm a pretty cool dad. I ride a motorcycle, drive a muscle car, have tattoos, practice martial arts. The nerdiest thing about me is my job - I'm a systems analyst.
It's just a natural part of the growing up process, I think. Kids disengage for a while as part of finding themselves.
