WHY are they not selling their PRODUCTS? PARTICULARLY their cycles. Honda cars are doing well...the modern incarnations are a bit bland, but they're doing okay.
OTOH, they're coming out with BRILLIANT products like the CB...and NOBODY KNOWS. It's a bike for the masses...the over-thirties who remember "You meet the nicest people..." as kids. Who wanted a 750 when they were teens...they were too young and the bike too expensive, even used.
AND THEY DO NOT KNOW, today.
This frustrates me. A large corporation cannot make these kinds of marketing missteps without becoming, quickly, a much-smaller corporation or a failed business.
Yes, from a pure marketing point of view, this ad is a disaster. Marketspeak wants you to desire only at the future, preferably in image bites of 3 seconds or less. That is why the ad is so cool. Take pride in your past and carry it into the future, kind of like our CB's.
