RE: chasin the flood - the Ferret - 03-12-2015

Rode the CB down to the flood area today. to give you an idea how bad it is here is a pic of EmptySea's group when they were here last year..look at the water to the left of the fellow on the left

This pic was taken in the same spot today

This would be just behind Sea's group..they were standing by the fence to the right in the previous pic. There is a series of steps you go down to get to the water in the summer. it is now covered in center of pic.

the water is almost on ST RT 52 where I am parked. It is normally several hundred yards from here

We are supposed to get 2"of rain tomorrow into Saturday morning. River might cover the highway if we get that much.

Great shots, Ferret. Thanks. How much flooding do you get when its only melting snow without the rain?

RE: chasin the flood...new pics added - the Ferret - 03-12-2015

not enough to make it flood. We had a really big rain a few days ago which pushed it over flood stage (on top of the melting snow)

Wow..quite a difference. Great pics. Thanks.

As Johnny Cash sang, "Four feet high and rising."
When all this snow melts we may be facing that too.

well it's been a week since I first went flood chasin' and the river has peaked. Above flood stage. Here are some pics from today. I could not get to many of the areas I previously posted pics of because those roads and the roads getting to them were closed.

This is the next town east of the one I live in. Maybe 6 miles up river. We are looking south towards the river. Notice the do not eneter sign and the street name sign just above the water. There is actually a cross street there that runs along the river that leads to a boat ramp.

Now look at the street name sign. Kind of ironic No?

A little ADV riding on the CB

Remember the house on stilts I posted a pic of on page 1 of this report? At that time the river was still in it's banks across the road. Not anymore.

Here is the main road in my little town. It's flooded on both ends, but you can still get to the middle. I also posted a pic of the town earlier in this thread, and this view was from the same spot, just facing east instead of west. The mighty Ohio encroaching on the right from the south. The water at flood stage is at 57 feet deep. This is over that.

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20March%2015%202015%20022_zpswdqq65xn.jpg.html][Image: 9f8949d234ca682397807c57fb62ef22.jpg]

This is an intersection of road just north of the main highway. Its called 8 mile and old 52. A small piece of old 52 can be seen in the left of the pic and we are looking north up 8 mile road. Look at the little white thing above my seat a little over 1/2 of the way down in this pic

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20March%2015%202015%20029_zpsczecqxwt.jpg.html][Image: d96154c45a3bba914c9de4352b1dcc43.jpg]

I'll be darned it's a speed limit sign. By law speed limit signs must be mounted 5' above the road surface to the bottom of the 24 wide x30 inch tall sign so the water here across the road is about 6 1/2' deep.

Yeah any area near one of those big midwest rivers is a scary place in the Spring.

All that melting snow must go somewhere I suppose. Hope the flooding does not get any worse for you folks.
