RE: Well... I dropped her today... - CB4ME_imp - 05-20-2013 RedReno - man, I feel your pain. If it were me, I'd bite the bullet and order new parts to fix it like new. About 5 years ago, I dropped a brand new GS500F in my yard and cracked the expensive front fairing at the turn signal stalk. Didn't fix that and I ended up selling the bike within the year. Three years ago I dropped my months old Kawasaki ER6N barrelling down my dirt driveway at night. Cost $600 to restore the worst of that damage. So it's usually not if, but when. Keep us advised if you decide to fix it back up to new, or keep the expensive crankcase cover scratches as a reminder. I did on my old GS1000 for a couple of years......until I made them worse. I'll be ordering some better to be safe than even MORE sorry haha. Have you settled on products/approach? I'd be interested to see what you do. RE: Well... I dropped her today... - redReno_imp - 05-20-2013 Wow thanks for sharing, I feel a whole lot better now haha. I'm glad I can still ride it, I'll probably order the turn signal- $38 and mirror $47 next month the clutch lever is fine the way it is (good thing I took off the bar end mirrors, I think the stock mirrors saved my lever... Oh wait a lever is probably cheaper lol). As for the crankcase... I am going to leave it for now, see if I can get it looking decent, it actually really isn't that bad. I haven't settled on engine guards, I'm gonna have to wait and save up the $$$. Sucks because I really wanted to order a silver road comet all well, I'll still be riding at least, I hope you all have been enjoying safe nice rides. RE: Well... When I'm playing golf I always have a fear that the ghost of Ben Hogan will appear in front of me, snatch my clubs out of my hand, and tell me to never set foot on a golf course again.
RE: Well... I dropped her today... - SUPERCRUZ_imp - 05-20-2013 Accidents happen. Looks like it can all be fixed. I think the mirror and case cover could be repaired in the right hands. You would be amazed at what wet sanding and buffing can fix. Maybe buy new and keep the damaged pieces as replacement after they are fixed. Hang in there and enjoy the bike. RE: Well... I dropped her today... - Brentj84_imp - 05-21-2013 Bummer. At least this bad boy is naked so there are no expensive painted fairings to replace! I'm sure they'll be more that will join you (if they haven't already). The more replacement parts you order, the more Honda may see a demand for CB11 parts & accessories! Trying my best to spin this as positive!
RE: Well... I dropped her today... - dagersh_imp - 05-21-2013 Reno, Argh! That sucks!!! Although, yes it could have been worse. That clutch cover is not so bad, it can be buffed and polished. You can do it at home with a power drill and some buffing wheels/compound. On my CB450's, the alternator covers are always scratched up, but I have had good success with using some brazing rod, sanding and buffing. Good luck!!! Gersh RE: Well... I dropped her today... - redReno_imp - 05-21-2013 Thanks all, I am definitely going to try something on the cover and mirror. RE: Well... I dropped her today... - RonLyke_imp - 05-23-2013 Let's pretend I did the same thing---- What's involved in changing the crankcase cover (left side)? When it's removed, would I lose all the oil?.....Loose parts to fall out?....difficult things to align/fit when replacing? Of course, this is just hypothetical...I would never do such a thing. ![]() I hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread; if so, please delete. Thanks in advance. |
