RE: How to do your own 600 mile service - Cormanus - 01-03-2016 Hey Riko, There are three things at issue in the oil change cycle: the plastic oil filler cap, the metal oil drain plug under the engine and the crush washer that goes on that drain plug. You do not need either a new filler cap or drain plug, but Honda recommends using a new crush washer each time the oil is changed. Does that make sense? RE: How to do your own 600 mile service - Riko_imp - 01-03-2016 jep got tgat already, the words in the first post caused confusion, thats all RE: How to do your own 600 mile service - Paulb_imp - 01-04-2016 While checking torque settings is asking a bit much it well worth checking that nothing is coming loose. My first service found my top left hand rear shocker nut attempting to escape. RE: How to do your own 600 mile service - Shinchan_imp - 07-11-2016 This, friends, is why you don't torque the oil filter to factory specs. This is after an end oil wrench, strap wrench, pipe wrench, and finally a pair of channel locks. The filter collapsed and started leaking oil all over before I was finally able to break it loose, and I'm darn lucky that it did finally come loose. Hand-tighten plus about 1/8 turn with the wrench for me, please... RE: How to do your own 600 mile service - flynrider - 07-11-2016 Yikes! That was really on there. Is it safe to assume (given the thread title) that this is how it came from the factory? I recall on many of the '13 models that the factory filter was on unusually tight (including mine) and the oil drain plug was unusually loose. At the dealers service desk Olivia suggested I buy the Honda oil filter wrench for $5. It is a light metal cap that fits over the top of the filter. It has a sturdy nut welded to the top so the filter can be removed with a wrench. Good thing I did because the filter was very tight and would have broken the plastic boa. Happy wife, happy life! |
