Thank you all guys for sharing and compiling this data.

I am at 13.000km at the moment, so I think I am more than safe by skipping valve adjustment by now. And at my rate, it's maybe another 2 or 3 more years before I need one.

The CB is a much cheaper bike to own than expected!

I had my valve clearances checked today at 26,000km.
This is on a 2018 CB1100RS, and it was the first time I have had them checked.

I didn't get the figures but they were all within spec, no adjustment needed, according to the local Honda dealership.

Of note, the technician told me access was a lot harder than he thought it would be due to the cam. He said he had to remove some of the engine bolts and tilt the engine to access the valves?!

I am not particularly mechanically minded, but I have to admit there was a bit of a red flag when when I was dropping the bike off... He was inspecting my bike commenting that access looked easy, and compared it a Goldwing that he said recently took him 3hrs to change an air filter!

Perhaps neither of these comments are unusual, I honestly don't know, but they didn't quite sound right.

He also told me that the RS was never sold new in NZ, and I am fairly certain it was.. he said it was a 'Taiwan domestic market' model and would have been parallel imported (I will follow this up to confirm).

I don't really expect him to know the exact model history of what is a fairly obscure bike here in NZ, but I left feeling a little lacking in confidence in the dealership.
In saying that, they are a rural dealer and probably work mostly on farmbikes and quads.

I got new plugs, oil and filter, air filter and valve checks done, gaskets etc, I was billed 3.5hrs labour (which doesn't seem excessive) for $743.00 all up.

Normally I would do the service, plugs, filter etc myself but got them to do it as the valve checks were due.

I think next time it needs work I will ride an extra 20mins to the dealership where I purchased it. The previous owner was a Honda technician there and might be more familiar with it.

So if he tilted the engine did he loosen the headers and throttle body boots or were these parts stressed ?
Think i would ask him exactly what he did , write it down in case you need the information later, you paid for it.
The headers have a gas filled? copper hollow ring which is in between the headers and the ex ports, it is torqued to spec and normally has to be replaced if the headers are removed because the seal is compressed and deforms in a unique shape for that port in the process.
And i hate to think what he would have done or forget to have done if some shims needed adjustment and the cams had to come out.
It is a close fit and the cover has to come out at the left side, coils and things have to be removed including the fuel tank, we've all done this.
