I know what cha mean, Ferret. Back when I wore a younger man's clothes, I went for a number of years with just two wheels. Used the bike for everything, the daily commute, groceries, to the laundry mat, traveling.... I got to where I had this attitude: I don't need no steenking car!

Mscb.. When we were kids we used to stud the tires on our Briggs & Stratton minis to ride on ponds using our dads tire stud gun for the snow tires on his Packard.

Its funny, wife and I went out to dinner tonight in her Toyota Highland. When we escaped our neighborhood, the public roads were rideable. But it will be days at these temps and no sun, for the snow/ impacted ice on our street to melt so I can get out.

I posted an article about a man in PA that has ridden everyday for 16 years straight. He keeps a rat bike around for salted roads and deep snow (and his self imposed minimum is 10 miles which I could adopt under these conditions instead of my own minimum of 30), so when we were coming back into our subdivision, looking at the snow encrusted road that would hold me hostage for a few days I thought to myself you know what I need? a 250 enduro, or dual sport or whatever they call them now. Elect start, fuel injected. THAT would be the ticket! Hmmmmm going to start looking around.

Yep Ole one of those with a lowering kit for about $2500 buck would be awesome!

RE: 2017 Motorcycling Resolutions - Ole_imp - 12-30-2017

It is hard to put in to words the amount of fun I had pushing that lil 250 in the Colorado canyons. Even shod with Dunlop D606's. I was floating I tell ya!

I'll bet.

RE: 2017 Motorcycling Resolutions - the Ferret - 12-31-2017

Sad to sad my road is still too nasty to escape to better roads, so 2017 is in the books. just ran the numbers for those interested.

Rode 338 out of 365 days (previous best was 323 in 2016)
29,105 miles (previous best 27,053 in 2014)
Average 86 miles per day
19,953 on the ST
9,152 on the CB
Most miles in a day 698 (Sat Jun 3) on the CB
Most miles in a week 2,228 (Mon May 29-Sat June 3) on the CB
Least miles in a day 11 twice (Jan 11 & 12..took my ST in for service and picked it up the next day)
Days missed per month :
Jan 13 (all snow)
Feb 3 (2 rain 1 medical*)
Mar 1 (wintry mix)
Apr 0
May 0
Jun 0
Jul 5 (2 medical*, 3 traveling)
Aug 0
Sep 0
Oct 0
Nov 2 (medical*)
Dec 3 (all snow)
total days missed: 27

I had kidney stone once, gout twice, a metatarsal issue once, and developed Microscopic Colitis in June...it's heck getting old lol

I rode in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas (CB rally),Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado (a great week riding passes and canyons with forum members Long Ranger and Offroad 4x4) during 3 trips..2 on the CB, and one on the ST.

all in all a great year, the only blemishes being the passing of my good bow hunting friend John, and motorcycle riding buddies Ohiaboy (Bill from Ohio) and Physics Teacher (Rick from Arkansas).

As 2018 starts tomorrow, I look forward to another great year. I turn 68 mid year. Trips are already planned to Utah, North and South Dakota, Ohio, Illinois, West Virginia and Kentucky (CB Rally). My goals are at least 20,000 miles and 300 days of riding.

It's been a pleasure riding with many of you in 2017 and wishing you all, the very best in 2018

Have fun, ride safe!

RE: 2017 Motorcycling Resolutions - emptysea - 12-31-2017

That's quite a year, Ferret, especially in light of the medical issues. I am confident that you will get those under control for 2018 and will have another spectacular season. I'm looking forward to riding with you at least once (Kentucky), but we should probably talk some about your planned rides westward as I am looking to check off a few of the same states in 2018 and maybe we could meet sometime somewhere for lunch or dinner. Happy New Year to you and to anyone else reading this. Smile
