1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - JPX_imp - 05-05-2015 On the look out for a new mod to add to my bike, I decided I wanted to add a little more old school styling to my side covers after looking through a few CB750 galleries. I came across a 1971 Honda CB750 K1 on my search: ![]() So I did some digging around on Samurider.com and saw that the Whitehouse bikes have a very similar setup going on. I also found out that they are asking $750 shipped for them.... ouch . The "1100" portion of their emblem is also a sticker which I didn't really care for.[url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Whitehouse%20Side%20Cover_zpsjebpsodk.png.html] ![]() I Microsoft Paint'ed a mockup of what the covers would look like on my bike if I used the 1100 off the 2014 emblem and liked what I saw. [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Emblem%20Photoshop_zpsit66n8l5.jpg.html] ![]() So I decided to try and make my own and found the following site selling the emblems I was looking for. [url=http://www.vintagecb750.com/]http://www.vintagecb750.com/ Lettering OEM Part #: 87123-300-030 Left/Right Diamond Part #'s: 87126-300-405 and 87127-300-405 My emblems arrived from Canada today only 4 or 5 business days after ordering them. I think the total came out to around $100 after shipping for all four of them. They each have two plastic molded pins on the back of them and came with retaining washers. I have no intention of drilling holes in my side covers to attach them, so I'm going to grind the pins off and use 3M automotive adhesive to attach them to my covers. Emblems on arrival: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Arrival2_zps3ov2naqv.jpg.html] ![]() The plastic posts on the diamonds were cut off using a Dremel cutting wheel: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Cut%20Diamonds_zpsod0qsojx.jpg.html] ![]() '750' removed from the lettered emblem also using a Dremel cutting wheel: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Cut%20Lettering_zpsgk0khgf3.jpg.html] ![]() A grinding stone attachment was used to contour the plastic edges that were blending in with the '750' and to flatten out the posts flush to the rest of the plastic. A small file and 1000 grit sandpaper finished it off: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Ground%20Down_zpsmhclynyd.jpg.html] ![]() Final product after using a Q-Tip and Isopropyl alcohol to clean them off: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Complete_zpsoosz93wb.jpg.html] ![]() 3M 03614 double sided adhesive tape was applied in strips across the emblems and excess removed with an Exacto blade: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Adhesive%20Applied_zpsnepmnhew.jpg.html] ![]() The stock CB1100 emblems were removed from the bike using a heat gun, the "CB" was dremeled off, and cleaned up with a grinding stone attachment. 45 degree cuts were made on the corners by the 1's and rounded off (top emblem in photo was pre-rounding off): [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/CB%20Removed_zpsapgxlmpr.jpg.html] ![]() Emblems were placed after cleaning side covers with Goo Gone and Isopropyl alcohol: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Emblems%20Applied_zpsmwt3zgjx.jpg.html] ![]() On the bike: [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Side%20cover%20isometric_zpss6bx6ctj.jpg.html] ![]() [url=http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/jasonxerri/media/Emblem%20Mod/Side%20cover%20isometric%20close_zpslfkyhs5t.jpg.html]
RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Grinton_imp - 05-05-2015 beautiful!! RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Headbanger02_imp - 05-05-2015 Awesome....I have considered doing this, but have forgotten about it, looking forward to your results... I always thought it should have from the get go been named "1150 Four" which rolls off the tongue a lot easier, and has the old school sound as 750 Four...
RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Chapomis_imp - 05-05-2015 Fun project, looking forward to seeing finished product. RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Lord Popgun - 05-05-2015 Looks great JPX. Really nice look and great how-to. Ridem put that diamond logo on his bike last year. Cip, I saw a post from last year where you were looking for a source for those logos shown above. If you didn't find it, JPX is the man! (source shown in his post) RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - redbirds_imp - 05-05-2015 Looks "old school" in the best sense of the words. Well done. Somehow I don't think they would look right on his new N1K Kawai. RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Lord Popgun - 05-05-2015 Oh yeah, I forgot
RE: 1100 Four and Diamond Emblem Mod - Ack-CB11_imp - 05-05-2015 I didn't like the sticker or the stuck on emblems either. I had the 750 set up and was going to drill some holes but without a drill press I lost my nerve each time. Expensive screw up, indeed.
