Painting Inside of Comet Road Fairing....? - 4myredhonda_imp - 12-21-2015

I noted in earlier posts that I have Comet 2 fairing coming. I did a lot of research here on the forum before deciding on the Comet 2. One thing I noted was that several forum members chose to paint the inside of their Comet fairings black or some other color because they didn't like the rough fiber glass finish that these fairings come with on the inside.

After looking at a few pictures in some of the Comet fairing posts here on the forum, I am starting to wonder, if it was very difficult to tape off the inside of the fairing prior to spray painting the inside of the fairing. Any tips on taping it off? Or, did anyone just brush paint the inside?

Any advice on painting the inside of the Comet fairing would be greatly appreciated and thanks very much in advance.

I ended up not painting mine as it seemed to have a weird finish on the inside, similar to a boat I have. I was worried about the paint sticking properly. YMMV. The members who have painted seemed to have no problems though.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, maybe using some kind of black, wrinkle finish as the unfinished red drives me nuts!

Curious to see what others have done...

Yeah, Popgun,

The paint not sticking was one of my concerns. I would think that there should be little contact with crud from the road getting on the inside, but vibration might cause flaking.......Hmmmmm.

EGAlvarez,

I am thinking that painting it black would be the best color choice, too. I had a bikini fairing on one of the other bikes I used to own and the inside was painted flat black from the factory. It was darker candy red on the outside. It looked pretty good. A wrinkle finish might be best to cover the fiber glass matting. Seems like one of the posts I read, talked about the wrinkle finish, but did not comment on how they painted it. Guess we can wait and see if anyone else has any advice.

Thanks guys

Plasti-dip spray (black) would likely work well. If it turns out you do not like the finish (usually a low lustre/matte), it is easy enough to peel off. With the texture of the fibreglass, the lustre would likely be less than a smooth metal surface. YMMV

I think he told me he just used a rattle can to paint it inside. I finally decided not to do mine and forgot who did paint theirs.

Here's mine. The rough inside surface soaked up the paint and prevented any drips, making it a very easy job.

Hey CB4ME,

Looks nice from the pictures. Did you spray paint it? If so, how did you mask off the outside to keep the paint from getting on it? If you didn't mask it off how did you keep the paint off of the red outside? Or, did you use a brush to paint it. Any advice sure would be welcome. Thanks.
