Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - polbit_imp - 07-29-2014 I was so set on getting the Deluxe... Then today I went to look at helmets and jackets at a different dealership, and they had a '14 Base sitting on the floor. Now I don't know... I actually really like the mostly-black on black and the 4-into-1 can. To me it looks better than in pictures. Not to mention $1,800 difference as quoted is not pocket change. Can I transplant the Deluxe instrument panel onto the Base model for reasonable money? RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - Acad23_imp - 07-29-2014 Is there a difference? RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - the Ferret - 07-29-2014 14 std and dlx have same instruments and 6 speed trans RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - redbirds_imp - 07-29-2014 I thought that the 2014 models had the same meters also. A change up to new ones would be very expensive I think. Didn't think I would like the black on black standard until I saw one at the local dealer. It's gorgeous. RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - Todd_K_imp - 07-29-2014 As a 2014 standard rider I can confirm the instruments are identical for both DLX and Standard. If they looked to be off a 2013, maybe it was a rare Japanese market 2013 black edition
RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - the Ferret - 07-29-2014 Polbit..here are the differences between the std and dlx DLX has ABS standard .7 gallon larger fuel tank Taller patterned seat Taller handlebars 4 into 2 pipes Chrome head pipes Polished brake and master cylinder covers Chrome bar ends Polished passenger grab rail Polished top triple tree Metal counter shaft sprocket cover Color matched side covers Smaller turn signals ( I believe) Repositioned head light Silver engine Silver wheels Both bikes have the revised( different from 2013 models) instrumentation, with trip computer and fuel computer and 6 speed transmissions. We didn't get the choice in Canada with only one model, and it would cost much more than $1800 to add all of the Deluxe goodies to your U.S. Base model. Fortunately, the Canadian model did get many of the Deluxe goodies (other than the exhaust, tank, seat...) In a year or two that extra $1800 won't seem like much, and you won't have a blacked-out bike that looks like a high school kid with a rattle can had his way with it. (JMHO) RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - furious_blue_imp - 07-29-2014 My $0.02... Mostly black bikes always look good in the showroom. After some normal riding and weathering they tend to look not so good unless the owner keeps after the finish. You'll know about how long you'll keep it and about how fanatical you'll be about keeping the finish up. It's sad to see what's become of some of those old Yamaha 'midnight' bikes from the '80s with the black finish either turned gray or peeled in places exposing the bare metal underneath.. RE: Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - polbit_imp - 07-29-2014 Thanks for the clarification, I've looked at some many bikes between 4 stores last couple of weeks, I must've confused the '13 panel with '14... Gumby 1100, I take it you are the reserved one around here? The thing is, most of my bikes have been red, I actually never had a black bike... I dunno, I got 2 more days to decide. Either way, it's an awesome bike.
Base vs Deluxe Dilemma - Ridem32_imp - 07-29-2014 I thought the 14 standard did not show mpg! But I guess I'm wrong |
