Good Deal? '14 STD - Tysondusch_imp - 12-17-2014 Looking for purchase advice on a '14 STD CB1100 here in Los Angeles. A few dealers have been sitting on these for 6-10 months, with no sale. Now they are priced around $9,300 (we know MSRP on the STD is around $10,500). Sales tax here in LA is about 9%. I've never purchased a motorcycle before. This will be my first. What in your collective opinion would be a great OTD price here? Not interested in extended warranty etc. I am a cash buyer, but I'm not sure that makes a difference. What would you be prepared to pay OTD in my shoes? Obviously I want to pay as little as possible but not insult the dealer with my offer. Thanks!
RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - NightRider_imp - 12-17-2014 I think it is fair. Not much room to deal even at retail on bikes. Figure asking price plus 10 - 12 percent = acceptable out the door price. Cash won't help since they would rather you finance through them. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - ClassicVW_imp - 12-17-2014 I agree with NightRider. Sounds fair. I'd estimate that $9300 is at or very very close to dealer cost. Depends how motivated the dealer is to clear inventory. Me, personally, I'd try to squeeze them a bit more. Throw in an offer of $8999. (Not really expecting them to say yes, just see if they take another hundred or two off) RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - hb9400_imp - 12-17-2014 I would say $8,500 out the door and let them counter. If you're serious about the bike they're not going let you walk away and they're not going to just say no and ask you to leave. You can also get a price from 1 dealer and take it to another to see if they'll beat it. I did that with my 1st Versys back in 2008. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - kDiqq_imp - 12-18-2014 Doesn't sound terrible. Just make sure you're negotiating an OTD price. Otherwise, you can get stuck with a LOT of fees. Good luck! Currently loving my '14 STD. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - nhawk7504_imp - 12-18-2014 I was in a dealer yesterday. 8700 for 13 out the door and 9700 for a 13 abs out the door. The 14 STD is still MSRP because the 13's are still there. So that is a decent deal. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - Capo - 12-18-2014 I'd try an offer of $8900 OTD plus tax and DMV. The only Honda offer on the bike right now is 3.99% financing, no bonus bucks, but i'd think the dealer would love to sell a bike before the new year, so be aggressive. And this 'OTD' thing...we need to remove sales tax and DMV from the figures. Each state is different, they are not negotiable, and it distorts the comparison. OTD, IMHO, should equal Price of the bike + any freight/ prep/ tacked- on dealer fees. Good luck wight he purchase, Tyson, hope to see you on the road soon! RE: Good Deal? Here in Texas, the dealer HAS to tag the bike before it leaves, so the DMV fees were paid then and there and was factored in to my OTD. Not sure how they do it anywhere else. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - mininsx_imp - 12-18-2014 I always make a counter-offer when dealing on a new bike. You're not going to insult them. You can always check the price on NADA.com. RE: Good Deal? '14 STD - metallyguitarded_imp - 12-18-2014 I'm down in San Diego and bought my 2014 Std in late September for $10,100 out the door. That's with a dealer installed Yoshimura RS-3 slip-on exhaust. It was a lot of work to get it that low. Luckily for me, there was another dealer nearby who had a stock 2014 CB1000 Std who was pushing hard to make the sale and I was able to honestly play one off the other until one of them finally balked. If you can do better than that, more power to you! Let us know how it goes and good luck! |
