Owls Head Transportation Museum - Guth_imp - 06-27-2016
While on vacation here in New England, today we happened to be near the [url=http://owlshead.org/]Owls Head Transportation Museum on the mid-coast of Maine. This museum was packed full of antique machinery including planes, automobiles and motorcycles. I spent some time talking with a young man that was working there on a paid internship after volunteering for 8 years. He spent most of his time at the museum maintaining the motorcycles on display. He told me that was studying antique automotive restoration back in Kansas (I believe he said that it was the only one of its kind to offer a four year degree in this particular field of study). Listening to his experiences with the old bikes turned out to be both entertaining and educational. I'm having a problem uploading images to my personal website for hosting purposes so for now I'm posting these photos as attachments and will edit later on if I get the chance. No modern retro motorcycles here, just some genuine machines from days gone by.

(The Vincent Black Shadow was notable because it is on loan to the museum each year, but only for part of the year as the individual who owns apparently still enjoys riding it. I'm guessing that any day now it will be back on the open road. What a great site that would be.)

Great photos, Guth. Museums of that kind are fascinating—indeed, most museums I've been in reward the effort you put into them.
I'd also like to see the Vincent under full sail.

I visited the museum a couple of years ago, but they only had a few motorcycles.
From your pictures they have added greatly to the collection.

Great pics...the way those bars are set on the first Harley make modern sport bikes look ergonomically neutral by comparison.

Ferret, if you google motorcycle board track racing, and click on the pictures link, it looks like those bars were the preferred style.
