Pauley is awesome - Rolls_imp - 04-08-2018

Have I mentioned lately that Pauley is awesome?

He had the good sense to notice that we hadn’t rode out in a while, and took the initiative to see if PowderToastMan, RandyB, and I might be of like mind. Well, his intuition was spot on. We were kind of bummed that Randy couldn’t make it, but we three got out for a good ride through the Santa Cruz mountains and a darn fine lunch at Alice’s. Get out your maps, now, because we hit the mountains hard.

We started out at a Starbucks in Campbell, CA, where we caught up over coffee. We’ve been getting together for 4+ years now, so that’s always fun. From there, we headed towards Santa Cruz on 17, took Old Santa Cruz up to Summit, then down Soquel-San José to Soquel, up Rt 1 to gas up at Costco in Santa Cruz, then up 9 to a left to climb Felton Empire, then Empire Grade to Alba and Back down to Boulder Creek. From there, up 9 to Skyline to [url=http://www.alicesrestaurant.com]Alice’s. Burgers all around. That’s living right.

Full, Powder headed down the mountain to go home, and Pauley and I continued north on Skyline to 92 until we split up just before the San Mateo Bridge, as I went home to Belmont and he continued on over that majestic bridge about 45 miles to his place. Good stuff

Thanks for posting those pics Rolls! I know those roads well and riding Skyline to 92 then crossing 280 to 101 and beyond. I'm up here in Portland and haven't quite found a place like Alice's yet. Distance wise, it's a bit quicker to get to the two lane back roads and we have our choice of the coast or the mountains.

More roads to discover here in the PNW. Washington, San Juan Islands and Canada is beckoning!

Thanks again! and yes I have a red one like yoursSmile

Cooldrum and Desert Viper - We’d have loved to have you along for the ride today!

Awesome. That's where I grew up. Skyline (35) was the only road before 280 opened. I lived one block from where you'll find the Black Mountain Road / Hayne Road exit off 280 today, just opposite Crystal Springs. We rode our 10-speeds on 280 before it was paved.
