They are semi-gloss black.
Same part # for both 2013 and 2014 ?

has anyone found these cheaper than $175 or so, like on eBay?
eBay $185 free shipping no tax
I wonder how well the OEM ones could be painted black, sand, primer, paint...would that work?
What about having them powder coated?
Paint or powder coat would work fine.
To each their own, but I find on a black motor that already has a few chrome bits, the chrome guards don't look out of place any more than the cam end seals do. Helps balance out all that darkness on the 2014 standard.
I think the black 14 standard looks great as it is! It's mean looking
Thanks for the info on stock engine guards. I just bought a set for my '13 on ebay for 182.99. Any suggestions for highway pegs?
Thanks!

I like these over the aftermarket because they do not use the engine case mounting bolt. If you were to have a heavy tip-over with an engine guard mounted to the engine case bolt you could crack the engine case, resulting in BIG $$$$ to fix. Engine guards are there to PROTECT the engine, not INCLUDE the engine in the crash.
