I added about 40 farkles to my CB1100 in 2013 and 2014, so I started off 2015 by buying an NC700X in search of new farkling opportunities. Thirty farkles and a half a year later I was pretty much done with that bike.
So in mid-2015 I turned my attention back to the CB1100. I hesitatingly swapped out my excellent Staintune exhaust for a smaller SP Tadao exhaust and added a touring windscreen to my Chic Design RC II. The rest was mainly painting parts black for a more toned down look…. and adding lots of red parts for more sparkle, thus continuing my bipolar approach to customizing.
The list for this past year includes:
Babyface front axle sliders – for show only
Blacked out disk brake mounting bolt washers
Black front and rear turn signals
Chic Design touring screen with black trim on screen and chrome trim around the headlight opening
Fairing interior was painted silver
Red brake reservoir covers, red brake reservoir mounting brackets and red bar ends
Oil cooler cover – sides painted black
Black tank trim
Blacked out “Honda” logo on engine cases
Red engine bolts and oil filler cap
Homemade side stand foot pad
Blacked out “carb” round, black top of shocks, black grab bars and license plate holder
Power box short exhaust – power box removed, stopper installed
Going forward, I may try lower handlebars. And if I inherit some money, maybe an aluminum swing arm, dyno tune and ECU reflash. But if Honda sells the CB1100 in 2016, this bike and the NC700 may end up on Craigslist so I can afford to start over.
