Has anyone here ever added Deer Whistles to their vehicles ? My father had them on his truck when he lived out in the boonies where the deer population was higher than the human. On Nantucket I will only see them at night, but in VA I saw them in the daytime as well. Ask Kenny, deer, deer, deer, deer (that was down by 4paws)
Yep, it's a scam. Don't waste money on that crap.
For the most part deer understand their crossing signs but don't know what to make of the whistles.

I know of folks around here who have tried them. Most agree they're a waste of money.

Having hit and killed a deer at around 1:00 a.m. on PCH quite a long time ago, I think deer have no concept of what a whistle means. For that reason I take a pass on bells and whistles, concentrating on technique, training, equipment and good judgment.
However it is hard to say just what effect these things may have, and a rider that feels confident in his bike because of a bell or whistle or some other intangible might be somehow better off for it.
These are things best left to studies and psychology and metaphysics, well beyond my areas of expertise.
Deer are unpredictable. Watched one try to jump over a moving motorcyclist, almost made it.
Where you see one deer there are more.
Might consider buying a few rabbit foot lucky charms(not so lucky for Bugs Bunny, though!) along with those deer whistles... along with some four leaf clovers..."have not hit a deer so far"... those whistles MUST be doing their job... I've heard some tell me... that kind of testimonial usually does not pass muster in a reputable experiment... not riding at night seems like a better strategy... though early dawn & late twilight has obviously higher risk due to their activity levels then...
