This seems like a great idea. I would love something similar. My GF will not ride except in town on a bike without a backrest, however I really dont want it on there all the time like on my other bike.

I have the same thoughts... I am not a fan of a backrest on a bike, it is strictly something that will be there when and only when the wife is there. I am still working out the details on the locking clamp, it will have a balance of being removeable, yet not so removeable that some joe shmo can steal it from you..

Fit up is going good. I have the halves tacked together and a couple bugs worked out.

Are there currently any accessories that latch onto the Hook Bolts (the studs sticking off the grab-rails)?

Do you have any plans to build more of these if it turns out well? If not, would you be willing to share the CAD file so i could have a local shop work something up?

I am not sure what is out there for accesories that attach the same way my backrest will. I definitely plan on making more of these once I get it dialed in. That is neat way of locking.

I'm surprised that there are no accessories yet with quick release for cb1100.
It would be great to have tail bag with driver's backrest for example.
