I find it kinda hard to read the countdown on the miles left.. but by then I have a pretty good idea.. look for a gas station !! .. I get 51 or 52 mpg consistently, so the trip odometer helps me.. plus I carry an extra 1/2 gal of gas in 2 fuel bottles.. the only time I used them was to help out a couple that had run out of gas in the mountains.. I keep them in one of my saddle bags.. along with tools and flat repair stuff..I was hesitant on keeping any clothing in that bag, figuring it would be contaminated with the smell of gas.. to my surprise, after testing, there was no smell !! .. the fuel bottles are in a vertical position and have a tight seal..I can't begin to tell you how comforting it is, knowing I have them when I am running low on fuel and on one of my mountain rides where gas stations are hard to find.. speaking of thumbs.. I still haven't gotten used to that new horn position.. I practice regularly when out on a ride, hitting the horn without looking..

I stopped wearing polarized eyewear eons ago and just wear basic eye protection because my glasses usually get abused.

I had an Aprilia with a LCD display that was impossible to read if the sun wasn't shining right on it, and I wore glasses riding.

that's exactly my problem too.. I'm guessing I will have to live with it.. with LED's becoming so popular, maybe there is some way to add a light source.. I'm just dreaming now ...

The other problem with the display is the plastic cover gathers road dust. If you wipe it off with you glove, it scratches. I wonder if some hobbyist that does stained glass could cut a clear replacement?

those were my thoughts too.. someone posted, it was glass already and also polarized.. when I saw that, I figured I would quit with that idea.. I have never been inside that display.. maybe there is room to install tiny LED's .. ones you couldn't see from the outside.. that would defeat the purpose if they would shine into your eyes.. it's probably a crazy idea..

My father has same problems after cataract surgeries. He has fitted his car with additional lighting over instrument cluster -- just a simple 21w bulb on adjustable flexible bar, something like a reading light.
It looks far from beautiful, but works great for him.
And anyway -- he does not see how strange it looks

Er ... Girts ... if your father can't see the light, should he be driving?

have you ever had the need to turn on a cabin light in your car? .. perhaps to read a map, or look for a key? we all need extra lighting sometimes .. before and sometimes after cataract surgery, one just needs more light to see dimly lit instruments etc.. so give old dad a break.. now there is the question about driving at night though ..that might not be a good idea.. that has to be judged on a case by case basis, I'm thinking..
I haven't given up on my lighting idea.. I have ordered 7 of those double sided tapes that hold the frame of the display in place.. I want to get in there and see for myself what might be done.. has anyone removed that frame? I have a 2017ex.. it seems that frame is held on by just those double sided tapes and all one has to do is pry it off.. I'm hoping that glass has a tint and it could be replaced with clear glass.. does anyone have any thoughts on that ? ..
