I dunno what I just read but I am seriously impressed regardless.
Again, can't wait to see the finished product. Your knowledge and attention to detail are well documented in this thread. Honda would do well to have you on staff...

There are two new minor software features added:

(1) Ride timer, cosmetic: the colon between hours and minutes now flashes once per second, just as it would with a "normal" clock.

(2) Persistent ride timer: the timer will start from it's last value until reset. It bothered me that the timer was reset every time I stopped the engine - sometimes just wanted to take a photo from the roadside, or refuel, and have the timer keep going. Now it won't reset until the ignition is turned on then off within a second. (Note: the timer still will not run with the ignition turned off, but will start counting up from the last value saved). Reaching 9 hours and 59 minutes will reset the timer too.

Working on the housings now, will post photos later... Gold Oxide: no, it won't take that long Big Grin
^^^ Cosry: (2) is a useful idea that can come handy. The reset method is convenient.

(1) is useful too as a fatigue checkpoint and appears to be common on many modern machines.

I guess it is time for a new update... Been working on the first batch and found a few glitches (and fell into a few traps too). Below are the details:

1. Assembled a set of five gadgets (electronics). Decided to add a serial number to them which is displayed during boot and also visible through the epoxy casting (the yellow label). This allows me to keep record of the exact calibration parameters of each unit.



2. Being the guy with belts AND suspenders, added the individual calibration data to the program memory too. This means that the program is individualized for each unit, and serves as an emergency backup should the EEPROM get zapped.

3. Found the 45-degree mount to be less good looking than I expected. This is mainly because of the curved backside, which is impossible to sand/paint nicely. Redesigned the stand, now has a smaller footprint and a rectangular backside.



4. This was a big ouchie: grabbed the wrong spray can one night and washed the completed units with an SMD flux cleaner instead of the resin flux cleaner. (Resin flux cleaner does not contain acetone, SMD flux cleaner does...) Next day found four of the five units having ugly "shadows" in the backlight. Took them apart (which was a royal PITA) and turned out that the acetone discolored the backlight diffusor. Now waiting for new display modules to be delivered... (Trying to learn from my own mistakes, but I'm not immune to my own stupidity Big Grin)



5. Despite all the above, managed to put one unit together. This is the photo taken after casting in epoxy. Bazbro, do you recognize that serial? Big Grin
