They are hollow, but run the entire height of a frame. They are excellent for mounting foot pegs and other nonsense. I'm going to make plates to block wind to my lower body, come winter time. $200 shipped to my door from Russia.

I am trying to imagine them in a crash though-







My fear is the middle section mounting easily taking out the exhaust header.. the lower mount appears easily rotate inward and take out the engine case, and the upper mount, same thing- easy rotation could take out the cyl head or valve cover, or both. There is only 1 hard mount for the entire bar (center) and it looks poorly located.

I'm no structural engineer..and they do look cool, certainly better than nothing, but compared to the Motech-







which have 2 hard mounts, with 3 bolts...and no real potential of rotation or penetration.


Would suck to buy those big ones hoping to protect a side cover and end up taking out the cyl head. For most people that would total the bike.

Wow, those Russian bars look like a proper stunta cage, until you look at the mounting a little closer. Been lurking on this thread, but sticking with my Morawaki frame sliders for now.

They could be made from a hard plastic and would not damage anything.

Question for anybody: do crash bars protect your feet/lower legs, or do they pose an extra threat (in case you don't fly off) ?

Questions for anybody who installed SM-Motech or Hepco&Becker:
- when you removed the engine mount bolts (top / front), did the engine sack a little bit (wrt the frame) and in doing so make it difficult to get the mounting screw through the mounting eye ?

@jefs, about your post and crash above, did it really even protect your exhaust pipes ? how come ?

I don't have any Crash bar on mine. On photos, the Russian Inês looked fine to me, i have asked A user that posted that he had mounted ones

I don't want to find out...but for me logic says if the bike goes over on its side with crash bars, then I have more room for my leg / foot not to get trapped.

I have SM Motech bars--it was not difficult to get the mounting screws through. Remove one side bolt, install guard, then remove the other side bolt, install guard.

I feel the SW-Motech crash bar saved my left leg.

It certainly saved my engine.

The Russian bar has no stable mid-mount and will easily cost you a set of headers on a good impact.

Last summer, my CB slid on loose gravel while cornering and my right leg was trapped under the bike. Luckily the SW Motech was there to save my leg, the engine guard prevented my legs from being crushed from under the weight of the bike.
