I am thinking about getting a tank bag. I have never had one before but with the limited hard bag options for the CB I am considering it. Anyone else use one? If so, what type and what should I know before buying one?

I chose to go with a tail bag on my CB1100, but I have used tank bags on many of my other bikes--including my other two right now (KTM and BMW). I've tried magnetic options, strap down options and more recently (on the KTM) an SW-Motech EVO bag with a gas cap mounted locking ring. That's been my favorite in terms of being very functional and secure on the bike--without actually touching the paint on the tank. But, you have the visible ring there when you don't have the bag attached so you have to be okay with that look.

Like most accessories--high degree of personal choice. For every person that doesn't like one of the options you can find one who loved it. My least favorite was the magnetic mount.

One thing to make sure and consider is the size relative to freedom of turning the handlebars in tight situations. Don't ask me how I know that a larger bag can significantly hamper your ability to maneuver the bike in tight situations--or prevent you from locking the handlebars.

Pretty sure you'll be able to find people here who've tried every possible option on the CB1100!

I have the Cortech Super 2.0 magnetic bag. It holds everything I need for a full day ride. I can grab it and carry it into a cafe or store like a bag. It expands. The backing against the tank is soft and has never marred the paint. The magnets are strong enough to hold it on in every riding situation I've been through over the last four years. After four years, some of the stitching along the top seams/piping is starting to come loose. I'll get another one just like it. They're only about $75. The only minor hassle is that I have to move it when I refuel.

See what I mean? To be fair to the magnetic mount--I didn't hate it, just wasn't my favorite. I had a strap version of the Cortech Super Mini--they make great bags.

Which size do you use?

I also run a small Cortech magnetic (not sure of size). It holds everything I need bottle of water, paper map, rag and small spritzer bottle of water for cleaning face shield, small bottle of hand sanitizer, T bar for helmet lock, side stand pad etc. Has a clear map case on top and it's expandable if necessary. (never is)

I prefer a set of soft bags on the seat to a tank bag.

I use Kriega dry pack bags on the rear seat and on the tank (with an adapter which they supply). This has the advantage of flexibility and a great plus is that they are totally waterproof.

I'll also run a tail bag if needed (but don't like lifting my leg over it to mount and dismount)



and saddlebags too (if on a trip)

I just bought four of these for myself and a couple friends' bikes. Two magnetic, and two suction. They're $26 a piece, so pretty cheap. They just came in today, so I haven't ridden with or played with them yet, but they seem pretty solid. Magnets are strong.
