I always wanted an interceptor, but graduate school, the military and then overseas work. Maybe I should look for a clean one. It still looks good to me.

Your statement perplexes me. The first part about the exhaust could not be more true. It's hideously large and looks worse in person. As much as I agree with the first statement, I found the second half about the power output a bit ironic given the CB has garnered similar comments. Both are tuned for massive low and mid range. Another 15 hp from little more than 100cc of displacement seems commensurate with that extra displacement and liquid cooling. To be fair, the ZRX made more power and it was carbeurated.

The Yamaha XJ1300 (1251cc) or whatever it's called that a lot of guys are lusting after also puts out 98 horsepower.

I owned a 2002 GSF1200F and it was considerably faster than the CB1100. The engine was a slightly detuned version of the 80s GSX-R1100 mill. The bike was smooth and quick but you felt you were sitting on top of it rather than in it. Until you have ridden a bike, it is best not to rely on published horsepower ratings. Manufacturers typically inflate horsepower which they measure at the crank anyways. I recall that the first Kaw Z1 had 70-some horsepower rating in 1973. The displacement was bumped from 903cc to 1015cc in 1977 and horsepower claims kept creeping up to almost 100 hp by 1980. The carbs didn't flow as much gas in 1980, the cams were the same as well as the crank and head and the only thing that changed was the piston diameter from 63mm to 70mm (or thereabouts). Would a 112cc displacement bump yield 30 more horsepower? Errrrr I have personally interchanged every part from both engines and they have just about the same amount of power... mid to upper 60s at the rear wheel on a dyno.

I was interested in buying one a few months ago. I test rode a 2007 with 20 kmiles and that thing was a torque monster. it is definitely more torquey than my cb and with bags a great sport tourer for sure.
brakes were very competent but cb is just better. it felt off balance to me at slow speeds and parking lot situations but the bike was not set up for me. so after a few adjustments I am sure it would be perfect.

liquid cooled, 1250cc, reliable...cheap used.
The good news is that there will be some used ones in a few months.

To be honest, I haven't seen one in person but from the pics it is pretty nice looking to me styling wise.

Personally, I think it's a great looking bike. Since one of my all-time favorite ex-bikes was an '83 GS1100e, it was definitely on my short list until the CB arrived on the scene, and I was taken with its classic styling, which obviously won out in the end.
That said, other than an upright-ish seating position, the two bikes aren't in the same class at all. The Bandit is what the UJM evolved into, the CB is a modern take on what the UJM was.

This news may just put the Suzuki back on my radar - great price, and I really do like a faired bike, and this just one "hits all my spots".

Good looking bike, especially with the matte grey tank.

A good, cheap to buy, run and own, do everything if you can manage the weight, motorcycle. I like it. Would make more sense for me to own than the CB. Wind protection for touring and undoubtedly better service intervals than the CB. More tire options. Better luggage options. Cheaper WITH ABS. But I doubt it will sell well here.

It may just be me but the Bandits styling was eclipsed as far back as 1984 by Honda with this.


Of course, all of this is a matter of taste and as we all know there's no accounting for it. The Bandits strong suit appears to be the low entry price to play with it's 1250cc mill. If I didn't have the CB sitting in my garage bay I might be interested enough to go look at the Suzuki. Since I do I'm not.

However, it looks like the Honda CBF1000F.
