I found this delightful lightweight in, of all places, my local bookstore. It led me to have a look at the history of this company. Born in Italy in 1903, Follis finally expired in France in 2006.

Well that's a new one for me, never heard of a Follis. Very much Italian 2 stroke design. Cool

I wonder how many of these obscure motorcycle brands existed before WWII? Many were founded after the conflict to provide cheap transportation.

Interesting, but this is a new one on me too.
Before WWII there were dozens and dozens of motorcycle companies throughout England, Europe and the US.
Most were low production companies lasting only a short time and most failed before the war anyway.

Small classic bikes always seem to be the prettiest. I think it must be because of all the space allowing each component part to be individually fully appreciated. There have been a lot of old French bikes appearing in the UK recently and not much money will buy a very attractive single seat bike with hand gear change.
