When Yamaha's new twin debuted a while back, I remember someone on the forum stated Yamaha should make an ADV version. Looks like Yamaha will.

Spy shots have surfaced of both an adv type and a fj-09 sport touring type with fairing and bags based on the FZ-07 twin mill.
That will make a nice combo, the Yammie twin, light weight, good ergos at a modest price.
Arrggg.. @##%%%^*&*

I am sure these bikes will be awesome street/sport touring bikes that could do some limited off road it's a 60/40 combo, with 60 being the street..... However, this means that the Tenere 660 single isn't coming state side EVER.. I really wanted that bike... To me that was more a 40/60 with 60 there being offroad...

I sold my KTM990Adv when I got my CB.. The KTM was an amazing sport touring machine. However, off road it was a handful.. I could do it (well after American supercamp) but it was big.. I would do it in group ride - but by myself I was hesitant, it's heavy and without solid footing one person might be able to upright it.. I have a KTM620 EGS-E, which is the low pipe adventure. It's not quite as big (ok, it's close) but the big single seemed more linear and more manageable off road, especially when it got harry.. I'd like to update it with a newer single. KTM's are awesome performance wise, but are time consuming to work on (I owned 3 at one time - I also had a 625 motard), and they haven't made their 625/640 Adventure since 07, just the endure.

So I really wanted the 660.. I thought it would have brought me as close as possible to what I wanted in a stock config....

Now, not so much
Very cool. Thanks for posting.
That's gonna be real nice bike, just the right size. Direct competitor to the F800GS, for the guy on a budget.

Yeah, these so-called ADV bikes are tanks nowadays. I would only ride decent fire roads on one of 'em as you say, because it may not be possible to get the thing back up if ya dropped it. They make fantastic all-round rides for rough pavement, etcetera but leave the real off-roading to the singles.
Here's my F800GS. I like it, but it "is" a big pig!!

Here it is taking a nap a couple of weeks ago at the Desert 100 in N.E. WA state. (5,000 riders...75 degrees, awesome event!!)

It's hard to tell in the photo, but I was just starting down a ten-foot drop. There was no way I was going to pick the bike up by myself, and I was blocking the track. I had to walk back 200 feet to signal the following riders to stop. Neither the bike or me had any bruises. It is just too heavy to pick up.

I just sold my KTM450 EXC a couple of weeks ago. "That" would have been a fun bike on this trail, but I wanted to be able to haul my camping gear 240 miles to the race on my bike. Everyone else had motor homes.
Sleeping motorcycles are not pretty. Sad
