Modified Center stand per a post on here to work w/shorty exhaust. Now my guy cant get it back on. The spring is giving him fits. Any advice I can give him?

If your guy is your Honda mechanic, probably not. If your guy is just a guy, you may wonna consider sending us a few pictures and explain the problem in some detail ... And I am almost certain you'll find some good advice on the forum
If it's a matter of "The spring came off easily enough, but now it won't go back on", and nothing has been done to modify the areas where the spring attaches, then it's just a matter of a really tight spring being difficult to reinstall. And it just requires some ingenuity. When I have been faced with this, I have done things like wrap some wire around the end of the spring and pull, bracing a foot against something solid, like the rear tire, and having someone push the spring into place when I have pulled it far enough.
If something was done in the stand modification to alter the spring mounting points, that's a different story.
He's a diesel mechanic. He's got the bike today. Im at work and not w/him. This is the mod we're attempting.

A brake spring set of pliers will often do the job very easily , good set about $ 20.
I have used a HEAVY duty puller from Motion Pro . One guy in Canada used a come along to get the spring back on a CB 1000 . Strength is also very useful !
There is a video somewhere showing how to use the brake spring pliers to get spring off and on again.
Here's how to reattach the centerstand and spring easily:
Secure the bike so it doesn't roll or shift, even using zip ties around the squeezed front brake lever if needed.
Attach the spring on both ends.
On the other side, start putting the pivot pin in half way. This becomes the pivot point so you can grab the centerstand as leverage and move it into alignment.
If this is still too difficult:
Attach the spring at both ends.
On the same side, put something about the same size as the pivot shaft.
That becomes the pivot point.
You now have to line it up and push the actual pivot pin in all the way from the other side.

Bend the spring and insert pennies between the coils opposite to each other. Or in my case washers as we don't have pennies any more. This will extend the spring and you just pull them out once the spring is in place.
Attach a pair of vise grips to the spring, find a fulcrum near the attachment point, use a screwdriver as a lever on the vise grips to raise the spring up to its attach point.

I've used this trick more than once and it works.
