Looking into the future...
The world doesn't want to shift anymore, cars or bikes, and if you are going to entice the new of age generation (16-25 year olds) and those behind them, you'd better make it easy to ride...aka automatic.
Auto also works for a lot of us older guys
... sounds like direct-drive electric.
